More details
Job title: Software Engineer
Salary: From £40,000 negotiable dependant on experience
Contract: Permanent
Location: Hybrid - flexibility to work from home and at any of our main hubs (London, Bristol, Manchester and Milton Park - Oxfordshire)
Jisc is the UK digital, data and technology agency focused on tertiary education, research, and innovation. We are a not-for-profit organisation with a big ambition to improve lives through education and research by providing hardware, software, and networking solutions.
Join us and your contribution will help us to empower UK universities, colleges, research institutions and wider customers with technology so that everyone prospers.
About the role:
This new role is being created to improve resilience of the Trust & Identity (T&I) development team and to increase our Python development capacity. Over time, we expect that your responsibilities will expand.
To start, you will be working with a Senior Software Engineer to maintain internal workflow applications built using the Django framework. Your focus will be to understand the integration with third party APIs and to provide mitigation development when the APIs change. It’s usually inevitable that these changes sometimes happen without notice or test facilities, so this role will also involve some incident response.

Responsibilities will include:

  • You will work with development team (software engineers and architect) and our Customer and Sector Enablement Team to understand the internal applications and business needs which they solve.
  • Work with the trust & Identity technical teams and Customer and Sector Enablement team to understand the ecosystem of trust and identity services in the wider research and education sector.
  • Work with T&I Service Managers and Service Desk staff to understand how our applications are being used and how they could be improved
  • Work with the wider Research & Education community by participating in working groups which define standards

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Software development in python
  • Good understanding of deploying TLS and certificates
  • Git revision control and feature branch-based development
  • Working on a shared codebase with a ticketing system
  • A good general standard of education or equivalent relevant demonstrable experience.

Please refer to the job description for full details.
