Software Engineer

This position is part of a small back office development team. The team’s current suite consists of data stored in a Sybase database, raw data from multiple sources (both internal and external), Perl, C++, and Python applications that take in all the raw data and generate reports for both management and traders. Types of reports include trade reconciliations, position reports, P&L reports, compliance reports, account balances, etc.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree required
• at least 3 years of related experience preferred
• Financial services back office experience preferred (thorough understanding of positions, P&L, etc., and how such values are computed from raw trade data)
• GUI experience, especially with Python/Qt (PyQt4), preferredClient/server experience, especially Python/Twisted, preferred

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Able and willing to maintain code for existing applications written in Python, Perl, and/or C++.
• Strong experience with MS Excel• Comfortable working in both MS Windows and Linux environments.
• Strong experience with databases and SQL (Sybase or SQL Server preferred)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a strong requirement
• Must be extremely detail-oriented
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Must be comfortable working with internal customers (e.g., management, traders, DBAs, accounting, clearing) as well as external personnel (from exchanges, clearing firms, etc.)

• Full cycle development including researching projects, writing, testing & debugging code, deployment of finished code into the production environment and ensuring that all code is checked into the source code control system.
• Direct support of end users, trouble-shooting problems and upgrading applications
• Extensive interaction with a Sybase databaseDemonstrates reliable and predictable attendance
