Description:

Company Description
It all started with an idea at Block in 2013. Initially built to take the pain out of peer-to-peer payments, Cash App has gone from a simple product with a single purpose to a dynamic ecosystem, developing unique financial products, including Afterpay/Clearpay, to provide a better way to send, spend, invest, borrow and save to our 47 million monthly active customers. We want to redefine the world’s relationship with money to make it more relatable, instantly available, and universally accessible.
Today, Cash App has thousands of employees working globally across office and remote locations, with a culture geared toward innovation, collaboration and impact. We’ve been a distributed team since day one, and many of our roles can be done remotely from the countries where Cash App operates. No matter the location, we tailor our experience to ensure our employees are creative, productive, and happy.

Job Description
Cash App Commerce owns our retail payment products including Cash App Pay and Afterpay products which gives our customers the ability to take their money further by opting to pay in full, pay in four, or longer term financing.
As a member of the Merchants & Partners team within Cash App Commerce, you will be responsible for supporting how our payment products are integrated and supported across our vast distribution network, composed of direct merchants (SMB, Enterprise), ecommerce platforms, and payment services providers.
You will build, scale, and maintain Afterpay and Cash App’s API platforms, which includes client authentication, a policy-based authorization framework, webhook configuration and delivery, API observability, and managing our API specifications and versioning strategy across our system.

You will:

  • Work cross-functionally with our product, business, and finance teams to support new payment experiences for developers using our APIs and SDKs
  • Own the design, development, and maintenance of new features and existing systems
  • Design and implement high-volume, highly available (99.99%+), low-latency, distributed transaction processing systems, making thoughtful tradeoffs between consistency and availability when both are not possible
  • Build systems that manage customers’ sensitive data and hold Cash App to the highest standards for security and compliance
  • See the big picture to design fault tolerant systems so the team can be brave, move fast, and break things, without showing a negative impact to customers

Qualifications

You have:

  • 3 or more years of software development or equivalent experience
  • Experience working with public APIs - either building or consuming them
  • Experience with fault-tolerant and scalable distributed systems
  • Strong desire to serve developers both internal and external
  • A vested interest in advancing Cash App’s vision of building for economic empowerment
  • Aspirations to grow and learn as an engineer on a highly collaborative team

Tools we use and teach:

  • Kotlin, including JUnit and Guice
  • HTTP/S, JSON, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and Open API
  • AWS Aurora (MySQL), AWS Elasticache (Redis), AWS DynamoDB, NewSQL (horizontally-sharded databases)
  • Amazon Web Services (SQS, S3, MSK, KMS)
  • Event-driven, service-oriented architecture

Zone A: CAD $138,500 - CAD $207,700
Zone B: CAD $133,700 - CAD $200,500
To find a location’s zone designation, please refer to this resource.
We have listed some of our common hiring locations. Depending on the cost of labor in the relevant geographic area, state work locations that are approximately 50 Kilometers outside of the metro area listed may be aligned to a different zone. These zones may be modified in the future. Please speak with a recruiter for additional information.
We’re working to build a more inclusive economy where our customers have equal access to opportunity, and we strive to live by these same values in building our workplace. Block is a proud equal opportunity employer. We work hard to evaluate all employees and job applicants consistently, without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, pregnancy, gender expression or identity, sexual orientation, citizenship, or any other legally protected class.
