The pulp and paper Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is a key cornerstone of industrial digitalization. Our comprehensive and modular solution covers all the core MES functionalities across the value chain, from order handling through customer service management.
Production planning module optimizes paper machine capacity, time and resource utilization by getting a better overview of machine availability and profitability. The system helps to streamline production across multiple machines and mills to eliminate high trim waste and grade change costs, unbalanced machine utilization, scheduling conflicts, late deliveries and unprofitable production.
The business and investments are rapidly growing in this area. Therefore, we are looking for a Software Engineer at ABB Oy, Process Industries Division to strengthen our team in Helsinki, Varkaus or Oulu. In this role you will be working closely with the project engineers to deliver high quality solutions for our customers. This job allows you to work with innovative technologies in a customer focused and international environment.

Your responsibilities

  • Creating specifications based on the customer requirements and implementing them. Preparing project documentation and execute project testing, installation, and commissioning activities
  • Participating in project meetings with customers, contractors, and suppliers
  • Performing analysis and identify issues in existing installations and implementing solutions
  • Creating highly structured and maintainable software code and deliverables with right amount of documentation
  • Following work plan from the project management and keeping an eye on the timeline and targeted costs
  • Managing your own tasks and making the progress visible
  • Assisting in technical proposals and providing trainings to colleagues and customers

Your background

  • 2+ years’ experience in MES software usage and/or deliveries, in pulp & paper is advantage
  • Knowledge of PL/SQL and relational databases (for example Oracle) is relevant
  • Familiarity with virtualized systems and knowledge of Windows, Linux, and other Unix operating systems is a must
  • Experience in industrial operations systems development and integration to e.g. ERP systems is essential
  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree from Information Sciences, Software Engineering, or another relevant field
  • Fluent written and spoken communication skills in English. Finnish and Swedish are an advantage
  • Ability and willingness to travel from time to time and attending to solutions deployments at customer sites abroad
  • All of the below are considered as advantages:
  • C++ experience in Windows environment using Visual Studio
  • Experience in ERP interfaces and/or ERP systems (for example SAP)
  • Knowledge of interfaces e.g. Modbus and OPC UA/DA.
  • Experience in production planning systems, ideally in pulp and paper industry
  • Knowledge of source control (CVS, DevOps, Git)
  • Experience in code quality assurance (unit testing, static code analysis)
