Description:

The Windows Defender Research team is seeking a Security focused Software Engineer who wants to help improve the security of Microsoft’s products. So, if you like to analyse processes and systems and develop more efficient solutions with new ideas and technologies, this job is perfect for you.
Our Research team is a global team of security researchers, advanced threat hunters, agile malware responders, data engineers, data scientist and software engineers at the forefront of protecting Windows and the Microsoft ecosystem from malware threats. QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualifications:

  • Two years of technical experience with C#, and scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python
  • Basic understanding of malware and threat detection related concepts
  • Two years of experience with developing software in distributed, cloud-based systems developed on Azure, GCP or AWS.
  • Good communication skills and an eye for detail.
  • Able to think, understand, and process information quickly under stress.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 2 years relevant industry experience within the Security industry and a strong understanding of customers and researchers needs.
  • Experience with developing software in distributed, cloud-based systems developed on Azure.
  • Azure, CosmosDB, Python, R, Spark, Azure-ML, Kusto experience
  • Strong logical reasoning, problem solving and debugging skills
  • Experience with data analysis involving statistical software tools, Big Data systems, Data Pipelines and Reporting.
  • Worked with large data sets to build workflows to automate decisions.
  • Security and Threat focused big data analysis
  • A degree or equivalent in data analysis, information design, software engineering, computer science or a related technical discipline
  • Machine Learning experience
  • Ability to analyze and recognize how a system’s parts interrelate and how sub-systems work within the context of larger systems.

Responsibilities:

The main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Analyses and understands systems and processes enough to propose and implement efficiency improvements.
  • Build and use advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, big data automation and the cloud to scale-out impact.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements and improve the capabilities of the products and tools.
  • Make good, timely and practical decisions with moderate uncertainty or pressure on a consistent basis.
  • Conducts and creates experimentation to prototype and test features.
  • Maintains operations of live service as issues arise.
  • Condense findings and communicate these verbally and in writing to researchers, developers and engineers through data visualizations and infographics conveying clear, concise and powerful messages.
