About the OPPORTUNITY

BAE Systems Australia offers significant flexibility in our workplace and in this role:

  • as this role can be performed from our Melbourne or Sydney or Adelaide offices
  • as the role involves working on multiple initiatives over time, Permanent Part time or Full Time working arrangements will be considered so as to facilitate a balance aligned with your personal commitments

As Solution Architect you will be responsible for proactively leading and supporting Enterprise Services Strategy and Architecture activities, guiding the development and management of a portfolio of solutions within this line of business.
Define our architecture blueprint and roadmap, develop end-to-end solution architectures for initiatives, evaluate options, and provide guidance to engineering squads. The role will also support innovation by monitoring emerging technologies/methods and championing those that will add value.
Partnering with business stakeholders to understand business demands and drivers, elaborating these, assessing the impacts and implications for our existing technology portfolio and programs of work, and shaping a response. Collaborating with business analysts and engineers to develop solution options, make decisions, and maintaining key Architecture artefacts, e.g. Architecture / Solution Overview.

More specifically, you will be

  • Developing solution architecture for the project portfolio aligned to architecture principles
  • Developing and maintaining a target state for Enterprise Services technology landscape and a roadmap to get there, considering organisational challenges and imperatives.
  • Presenting big picture or detailed architecture views and artefacts to a variety of stakeholders across business and technology teams.
  • Building relationships with key business and technology stakeholders and setting direction together.
  • Developing and maintaining patterns relevant to the technology solution.
  • Actively contribute to architecture practice framework including guardrails

About YOU

  • Demonstrated 6-8 yrs of solution architecture experience on major programs in complex organisations
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information-technology, engineering, system analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience
  • Solution design and implementation leveraging cloud-native technologies, like Microsoft Azure IaaS/PaaS is highly desirable.
  • Experience in migrating and modernizing applications in Microsoft Azure
  • Experience in distributed (micro) service-oriented architecture, as well as refactoring monoliths into modular services.
  • Experience in the architecture and design of event-driven systems, different methods of service and system integration (APIs, streams, etc), and related concerns such as orchestration.
  • Experience architecting digital platforms for customers and employees, including UI and UX considerations.
  • Experience working in a relevant industry and with Manufacturing Applications is helpful, but not required
  • Experience developing architecture blueprints, strategies and roadmaps
  • Proven skill in consulting, communicating, and influencing
