WHY DOES THIS POSITION EXIST?

The Solution Engineer Lead role provides the technical expertise and dedicated technical focus required to deliver on Westpac’s next generation technology capabilities including data analytics, platform development, software development, specialised application development, systems, and processes. As leader of a team of solution designers you will support the delivery of their analytical, delivery and engineering capabilities in an agile environment. This role can be based in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane.
The Solution Engineering Lead role is the intersection of analytics, design and engineering disciplines, providing thought leadership and innovation for data products and other solutions. The function is accountable for the overall solution design of the extraction, transformation and creation of analytically ready data, for use in descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive analytics. In addition the role is responsible for implementing divisional engineering, governance and architectural standards across the Data Platforms Credit Risk engineering team.

ACCOUNTABILITIES OF POSITION

  • Working both directly on programs and through the Solution design team the role is responsible for:
  • Provide thought leadership and subject matter expertise on analytical ready data to the analytics, projects, systems and business teams.
  • Designing and implementing cross functional solutions that build enterprise data products across technologies and data platforms.
  • Ensuring solutions maximise reuse benefits across multiple programs and engineer Data Products across sourcing, design, data quality and placement to maximise enterprise value and re-use.
  • Identifying the need for and creating designs or specifications and oversee the delivery of common enterprise components that enhance the delivery and maintainability of data products.
  • Defining solutions that span technologies including SAS, Hadoop & Big Data / Azure/Teradata Data Warehouse / ETL Tools (informatica) / BI Tools (e.g. Tableau and Power BI) .
  • Collaborating with Data Product Owners/LOB service leads for prioritisation, sizing and assessment of Data Products roadmap and backlog.
  • Driving conformance of projects/programs to data product design principles and standards
  • Utilising strong influencing and stakeholder management skills to promote strong product design best practices, principles, standards and understanding across the organisation.

  • Work with business units to understand credit risk related data elements, including identification of relevant reference data, metadata and data lineage.
  • Engaging with LOB Heads and delegate(s), Line of business, business SMEs, and wider Data Platforms community to identify potential synergies of data design across domains and source high value data for enabling data products.
  • Guide Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions in full-stack development tools, technologies and DevOps processes.
  • Maintaining communication channels and establish effective relationships with senior management and their teams across all business and Technology teams.
