DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

The Solutions Advisor: Communications & Knowledge Management will support strategic knowledge capture, generation, and dissemination for enhanced programming, as well as TSS support to articulate the value-add and contribution to epidemic control by USAID/South Africa and regional health offices (including but not limited to RHO, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, and Mozambique). They will support the development of compelling communications and knowledge products using various technologies and mediums to showcase key program results to priority audiences. They will promote communications and knowledge management best practices, including standard systems, processes, platforms, and technology. The Solutions Advisor: Communications & Knowledge Management will implement innovative solutions, leveraging achievements and successful approaches and integrating them across TSS to help meet the unique needs of USAID/Southern Africa and the RHO.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Advanced degree in communications, journalism, public health, digital media, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years of experience in the health and development sector in southern Africa. Experience with donor-funded programs (such as USAID and/or PEPFAR) preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in producing high-quality communications and knowledge products using visually appealing formats and appropriate dissemination platforms for target audiences.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to adapt messaging to various audiences in English.

  • Strong technological proficiency, including extensive capacity in using both the Microsoft and Google suites of tools, particularly PowerPoint/Slides.

  • Ability to organize, manage, prioritize, and follow through on multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals from diverse professional backgrounds.

Responsibilities:

The Solutions Advisor: Communications & Knowledge Management will support one or more of the following areas:
Storytelling and packaging of technical content
-
Support the development of engaging, well-written communications and knowledge products which document good practices and innovations, learning, results, and program achievements.

Support TSS and USAID teams to translate and package complex technical information into clear and compelling products appropriate for specific target audiences, including the use of digital media, videography, and/or photography. Microsoft PowerPoint/Google Slides is used extensively across TSS and within USAID.

Contribute to strategic and creative discussions to form conceptual ideas and develop icons, graphics, and other visual assets for use in PowerPoint presentations (and other products) to further the messaging, data staging, and narrative framework needs of USAID.
Collaborating, Learning, and Adapting (CLA) product development

Develop and maintain high-quality CLA products, including workshop and webinar materials, training curricula, and standard operating procedures.

Contribute to the design, development, and facilitation of effective collaboration opportunities for USAID and key stakeholders, such as webinars, workshops, retreats, and training sessions.

Support strategic engagements held with USAID, Government counterparts, and implementing partners by attending and documenting session proceedings, and synthesizing and packaging the content into concise, immediately usable, and visually appealing products.
Technical writing and editing

Copy edit project deliverables, providing a thorough technical review to ensure accuracy, completeness, and visual appeal, as well as compliance to TSS branding and marking guidelines.

Support TSS reporting on activities and achievements, including quarterly and annual program reports.

Support the identification, writing, and review of items for publication at conferences and other learning events and fora.

Develop, update, and maintain standard reporting templates and provide orientation to relevant team members on their use.
Knowledge management and use of digital technologies

Collaborate with TSS and USAID teams to identify/develop, strengthen, and maintain effective knowledge management and communications practices, systems, and technology.

Support TSS and USAID teams to optimally use collaboration and project management tools such as Google Workspace, Monday.com, and Slack. This includes providing updates and guidance on new functionality, as well as user support. TSS operates extensively within Google Workspace, as does USAID.

Support the rollout, integration, maintenance, and updating of digital technologies, including appropriate opportunities presented by AI.
