The Opportunity
South Bow’s Liquids Engineering and Asset Integrity team is looking to add an #EnergyProblemSolver Engineer to complement the technical skillset within our motivated and collaborative Operations Engineering team, based in Calgary, AB
Reporting to the Manager, Operations Engineering, we are seeking an exceptional Operations Engineer to leverage problem solving skills and technical knowledge across multiple disciplines to enhance the safe, reliable, sustainable, and cost-effective operations of our system. This individual will have a history of developing solutions to complex problems and driving results. Additionally, they must be able to handle shifting priorities and multiple concurrent assignments.

What you will do

  • Partner with the field operations staff to ensure our facilities operated safely and reliably
  • Provide field engineering support on Technical Requests and Management of Change
  • Develop creative, innovative and sound engineering solutions to complex operating and maintenance issues, including development and implementation
  • Consistent evaluation and prioritization of projects within our portfolio to ensure fiscal responsibility and optimized constraints
  • Utilize risk management tools and processes in conjunction with risk-based asset management strategies
  • Lead the development, justification, escalation, and risk/cost analysis of general plant maintenance projects
  • Engage the right people at the right time to evaluate and develop projects to ensure the best decisions are made
  • Work with data analytics and algorithm development to optimize pipeline reliability

Minimum Qualifications

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • Registered, or eligible to register, with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing
  • 8 years of progressive relevant experience
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate change and help others adapt to a continuously changing work environment
  • Experience driving short-term and long-term technical solutions to complex and ambiguous problems
  • Experience applying engineering principles, codes and standards to identify issues, recommend improvements and implement solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex issues clearly and effectively to senior management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Broad engineering expertise
  • Troubleshooting skills, including familiarity with all aspects of facility operation
  • Failure investigation and root cause determination, materials engineering background and interpretation of damage mechanisms
  • Familiarity with norms and standards related to equipment reliability, safety, and risk management
