Description:

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the building prinicpal, the candidate provides classroom instruction to students
enrolled in an alternative education setting. Reinforce instruction to individual students and small groups in a variety
of academic subjects and other learning activities, including implementing personal education plans and behavior
plans. The Special Education Teacher will utilize various behavioral strategies and alternative programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The professional educator MUST possess an Illinois Professional Educator License with an LBS I
endorsement.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides supervision of students in the alternative educational setting in grades 8-12.
  • Provides small group instruction to students enrolled in the alternative school setting.
  • Develops and implements student IEPs.
  • Plans daily classroom instructional activities.
  • Writes and implements FBAs/BIPs.
  • Works collaboratively with school and agency counselors, teachers, administrators, parents and related service
    providers in the overall educational plan for students to include lessons that address the student’s behavioral

needs.

  • Prepares lesson plans to correlate with student needs.
  • Maintains student records and files in a confidential manner.
  • Keeps accurate documentation regarding student progress, needs, strengths, etc. (i.e. grades, observations,

anecdotal records, other related data).

  • Keeps daily student attendance.
  • Submits all reports, forms, records and data as requested by Administration.
  • Maintains professional documentation including daily notes to families, data collection of students

performance on academics tasks, and behavioral logs.

  • Handles emergency situations involving aggressive or uncontrolled behavior of identified students according

to approved CPI(Crisis Prevention Intervention) procedures as trained.

  • Implement positive behavior intervention strategies for students; model identified behavioral techniques

including positive behavior interventions and reinforcement strategies.

  • Participate in and attend in-service, structured and other specialized training, related to but not limited to,

strategies for working with behavioral and educational needs of students, behavior management instructional
curriculum and other areas assisting the teacher in providing high quality education to the students.

  • Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEP’s) for students; maintain compliance with all Federal

Regulations and State Policies regarding the education of students with disabilities.

  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of

the students.

  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Build a partnership with families, encouraging their active participation in students’ learning.
  • Ensure appropriate accommodations to the curriculum, lessons and learning environment.
  • May assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from

wheelchairs; lifting; positioning; or assisting students with personal care such as feeding, bathroom needs, and

personal hygiene

  • Adhere to school policies and procedures
  • Complete any other essential duties that may be assigned.
