Purpose of the Position: The purpose of the position is to educate and maintain students in the assigned classroom. Teachers are expected to engage and support all students in learning and create and maintain an effective and safe environment for all students.
Overtime Status: Exempt

PIP/STSP: $53,000-$57,000

Intern: $52,000-$62,000
Prelim/Level 1: $62,000-$67,000
Level 2/ Clear: $68,000-$88,000
Location: We are seeking Special Education Teachers for Point Quest Education located in El Dorado Hills, CA.

MINIMUM SKILLS OR QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree with training and 2 – 5 years of experience working with students with learning and or social-emotional needs.
  • Valid CA Special Education Credential (Intern, Preliminary, Clear, Level 1, Level 2 acceptable)
  • Master’s degree in special education is strongly recommended.
  • Requires experience in special education and an Educational Specialist Credential in the area of Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe disabilities depending on the classroom assignment.
  • Experience running a special day class and implementing curriculum and behavior interventions in a related and/or relevant setting is also requested.
  • DOJ/FBI Live Scan Background & TB Clearance
  • Pro-Act, CPI, and/or CPR certification helpful

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Regularly required to be able to sit and view computer screens for extended periods
  • The noise intensity level is moderate to high
  • Requires frequent reaching, handling, sitting, standing, walking, hearing, and talking
  • Must be able to see and hear within normal range with or without correction.

Responsibilities:

  • Unless directed by a federal, state, or local governmental stay at home, shelter in place or site-specific closure order mandating that the teacher’s assigned school site move to a remote learning or hybrid model, or as otherwise may be required by law in effect at the time, this is a full-time in-person position.
  • The development of effective lesson plans which are to be turned in each Friday for the following week. Lesson plans should account for various student levels within the classroom as well as procedures for assessing knowledge and the content standard the lesson strives to address. Specific curriculum used should be included as well as the Common Core State Standards to be addressed.
  • Supervision and direction of paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom. Program Supervisors and Site Administrator(s) will share in the supervision of the staff assigned; however, it is the teacher’s primary responsibility while in the classroom setting.
  • Implementation of the school-wide Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program. This includes oversight of the classroom’s tracking of behavior points, student store, and communication with parents/guardians. It is the teacher’s responsibility to ensure that behavioral data is taken every day on every student and documented within Point Quest’s database.
  • Maintaining a classroom, which focuses on student engagement and safety. This includes demonstrating the implementation of the behavior plan, modification of state-adopted curriculum, as well as strategies for effectively teaching students with a variety of disabilities.
  • Attend IEP meetings for the students assigned to the classroom. Updates are to be written for each student’s annual IEP in coordination with the school district of attendance. All IEP updates (Present Levels, BIP, ITP, and Goals) are to be entered into SEIS 7 days prior to the scheduled meeting.
  • School Beautification. This includes general bulletin boards as well as student work being posted in the classroom. Bulletin boards are to be refreshed approximately every month.
  • Model appropriate behavior and social interactions with all students and staff.
  • Work in a collaborative manner with other staff and outside agencies to effectively educate each student.
  • Planning instruction and designing learning experiences for all students based on data. Summative assessments should be completed with each student no less than three times per year.
  • Professional Development. All teachers at Point Quest participate in ongoing professional development activities. These include but are not limited to twice-monthly teacher’s meetings, and monthly all-staff training. Teachers are encouraged to participate in other professional development activities outside of Point Quest.
  • Communication with parents is made on a weekly basis in addition to any communication regarding a specific behavior incident. The phone call should be made to let the parent/guardian know how their student is progressing.
  • All behavior emergency interventions are documented and a BER is to be completed. A phone call is to be made home prior to the end of the school day.
  • Other duties as assigned.
