Description:

A vacancy has arisen for a nurse to work within Northumbria NHS Foundation Trust Special School Nurse Team. 25.5 hours Term Time.
The role involves assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care for children/young people with a range of complex health/ disabilities within a Special School.
The role involves working closely with education staff and the multi disciplinary team.
The role involves providing health education and promotion to children with complex health needs/disability to promote physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
Required to manage own caseload from children registered on the schools roll.
Manages own workload and maintains a day to day diary of work undertaken. Supervision and support is available from the Senior Special School Nurse, Team Lead for Special School Nursing and Children’s Community Nursing Team colleagues.
Assess the individual health needs of children.
Offer evidence based preventative interventions, programmes of care and specialist packages
Support, training and give professional advice to teachers and other school staff on a range of child health and medical issues
Identification of social care needs, including safeguarding from abuse.
Providing health education at classroom, group or individual level.
Ensuring children receive the national immunisation programme.
Works with and organises clinics for visiting Consultant’s and Dietitians

The post requires good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to be adaptable, reliable and approachable. You will have strong interpersonal and leadership skills. You will also have knowledge of current professional issues, including child protection.
You will be supporting children with complex needs within special schools in North Tyneside. You will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care in accordance with local and national policy in an integrated way to improve outcomes for children, young people and their families
You will have a good knowledge of the components of clinical governance, risk management, audits and relevant professional codes.
The special school nursing service in Northumbria NHS Foundation Trust is a trust wide service and therefore you may be required to work at a different base other than the designated base at short notice
