Responsibilities:
MAIN DUTIES OF THE JOB
- To provide effective, efficient and high quality physiotherapy treatment programmes for respiratory patients in the community setting and within the pulmonary rehabilitation service. To lead assessments, group education sessions and exercise classes adjusting exercises according to patients’ health status on that day.
- To be able to undertake oxygen therapy assessment and prescription (Long term oxygen therapy and ambulatory oxygen).
- To act as a source of expertise on the management of respiratory patients providing support and advice to other health professionals/agencies both within and external to the Trust
- To communicate with patients in a way that empowers them to make informed choices about the management of their condition and engages them in the planning and delivery of treatment. Taking into account cultural, linguistic, medical, emotional, psychological and physical factors and utilising available resources to facilitate effective communication.
- To communicate complex patient related information effectively, to ensure collaborative working within the Multi-Disciplinary Team.
- To liaise with all referring agencies to facilitate the provision of an effective and timely service.
- To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, ensuring a high standard of clinical care for patients under your care. To organise the clinical caseload showing good time management skills and have the ability to prioritise if necessary

- To participate in evidence based projects, including recommendations for change in practice and to participate in departmental audit in the clinical area. To be involved in clinical innovation, using research evidence based practice and clinical networks.
- To be responsible for a varied caseload of clients which are referred from primary, secondary care and clients themselves.
- To be responsible for and maintain accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date documentation, in line with legal and departmental requirements, and communicate assessment and treatment results to the appropriate disciplines in the form of reports and letters.
- To manage clinical risk within own caseload and caseload of the team at all times and ensure clinical risk is effectively managed across the designated services, whilst also considering tasks given to support staff and rehabilitation assistants
- To assist in training, supervising, clinical development and performance management of more junior staff
