SPECIALIST APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER - NVH (WYANDOTTE, MI)

BASF Corporation is seeking a Specialist Application Development Engineer - NVH (Wyandotte, MI) responsible for developing Top Mounts, Subframe Mounts and other NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) products using microcellular polyurethane (MCU) and compact elastomer materials on a regional level while coordinating with all relevant Cellasto regions as required. Responsible for maintaining project development costs on the technical side, and leading projects from idea inception to manufacturing (moving all projects into production and ensuring that the parts can be effectively manufactured at minimal reject levels). Perform automotive OEM related design and development of microcellular and compact elastomer components. Develop products made from BASF’s proprietary Cellasto Microcellular Polyurethane and Cellasto Compact polyurethane materials for the automotive NVH market, such as Top Mounts, Subframe Mounts, and other NVH parts. Leverage knowledge of Cellasto materials and Top Mount and Jounce Bumper development to provide Jounce Bumper, FEA, and CAD support, and mentor junior engineers in the United States. Conduct program management and design responsibility from initial concept to implementation, including design, APQP verification and ensuring manufacturability with our OEM customers. Work with design and release engineers and ride and handling engineers at the customer side, as well as with internal customers (marketing, tooling, quality assurance and manufacturing personnel). NVH development for new electric vehicles (NEV), including full and hybrid electric vehicles, utilizing specific knowledge of battery electric NVH including isolation pads using microcellular polyurethane and compact polyurethane elastomers. 30% domestic and international travel required. Telecommuting permitted up to 2 days per week.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field of study (or foreign equivalent) and five (5) year of related experience required. Employer will accept pre-Bachelor’s degree experience. Two (2) years of experience must include the following: top mount and sub frame mount design, development, and testing; microcellular polyurethanes (MCU); compact polyurethane materials; NVH special applications including top mounts, sub-frame mounts, body mounts, spring pads, engine mounts, and heads up display mounts; new electric vehicles (NEV) NVH isolation including all variants i.e hybrid, full electric; design, development and testing of all above mentioned products; ride and handling at vehicle component and system level; and design and development of production tooling, including the ability to design for venting and shrinkage due to the molding process. 30% domestic and international travel required. Telecommuting permitted up to 2 days per week
