We are delighted to offer an exceptional opportunity for an experienced and dedicated Registered Dental Nurse to join our team within the Department of Special Care Dentistry and Paediatric Dentistry at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. This role presents a unique chance to contribute to the delivery of high-quality care, impacting the lives of patients across the North West region.
As an integral member of our team, you will collaborate with esteemed professionals, participating in the provision of exemplary care across various facilities, including Chorley Hospital, Royal Preston Hospital, and our outreach clinics at Skelmersdale and UCLAN.
We seek an individual with both passion and proficiency. Essential qualifications in Sedation, Radiography, or Special Care Nursing are prerequisites, ensuring your capability to excel within this dynamic and fulfilling role.
This is a permanent position, offering 16 hours per week, providing stability and the opportunity for significant professional growth within a supportive and dynamic environment.
We are an expanding department with 3 Consultants in Special Care Dentistry, 1 consultant in Paediatric Dentistry, Senior Dental Officers and a Dental Therapist, accepting referrals from across Lancashire and South Cumbria, providing a range of oral care for patients with complex disabilities and impairments.
These include medically compromised patients, anxious paediatric and adult patients, patients with physical and learning disabilities and patients with mental ill health.
We work closely with other dental specialties at the Trust including Restorative Dentistry, Orthodontics and the Oral and Maxillo facial team.
A range of treatment modalities are available including sedation techniques and General Anaesthesia.

As you may know the Government passed legislation requiring vaccination as a condition of deployment which was due to come in from 1 April 2022. However on the 31 Jan 2022 the Secretary of State has announced that this is being reconsidered. Whilst we wait for further guidance, as a Trust we have made the decision to continue to gather vaccine status during our pre-employment stages should you be made an offer, no offer would be conditional upon you having a vaccine but we need to make you aware that if the decision is taken by the government to implement mandated Covid vaccines in the future then your employment may be at risk if you do not have these.
Vaccination against continues to be the best way to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and, of course, your patients from the virus. NHS England and NHS Improvement have always been clear that staff have a professional duty to be vaccinated.
Assist chair side to support and chaperone Dental Surgeon in the provision of complex oral health care for patients within Special Care for example patients with medical problems, mental health problems, severe learning disabilities, acute anxiety who exhibit violent and aggressive behaviour
Perform nurse led pre-operative assessments for adult and paediatric patients.
Support and provide patient education oral health promotion.
Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff.
Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
Assist in setting, monitoring and maintaining standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care.
Maintain accurate and complete records of all care activities, in a timely manner, adhering to local and professional standards for documentation.
