Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Specialist Data & Analysis to join our State Agreement and Approvals team in Perth. This role plays a critical technical function, delivering data and analytical services to enhance our understanding of the Pilbara region’s biology. The role also supports the provision of information for environmental approvals and assists in guiding future planning.

This role is a great opportunity to lead advancements in ecological data analysis, management and interpretation. In this role you will:

  • Manage the quality assurance, protection assignment and integration of spatial data produced via complex environmental assessments.
  • Maintain and (as required) develop data capture & management tools, processes, standards and guidelines to ensure they align with best practices and end user needs.
  • Improve the efficiency of data maintenance and identify opportunities to add value through data management.
  • Prepare and analyse/interrogate data as requested by the State Agreements and Approvals team.
  • Maintain and develop tools/scripts to extract information efficiently and reliably.
  • Manage maintenance of datasets, databases, information sources and processes that support biological data inputs and outputs.
  • Lead continuous data management improvement projects based on best practices and in collaboration with end users including GIS.
  • Provide education, training and user support for relevant biological data functions.
  • Provide guidance, coaching and technical support to team members.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and technical specialists.
  • Contribute toward an inclusive culture through collaboration with peers across the broader State Agreements and Approvals team and demonstrating the core values of care, courage and curiosity.

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • A Degree in environmental science, GIS or other relevant subject
  • Demonstrated experience working in either mining & resources, government or consulting
  • Experience in biological surveys, data management or GIS specific related work.
  • Strong computer literacy and system knowledge - Python, R, Java, SQL, and Power BI, Advanced in ArcGIS Pro and FME.
  • Understanding of biological values in the Pilbara
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as together with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong partnering skills and ability to influence
  • Proficient time management skills and ability to prioritise complex and ambiguous tasks
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills coupled with an ability to think on your feet and make quick rational decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to quickly develop positive relationships with stakeholders
