Description:

We are looking for a Specialist Doctor for the above full time post for this 660 bedded acute hospital serving a local population of approximately 400,000. The appointment will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 consultant contract (England).
Applications are invited for a (10PA) Specialist Grade in Breast Imaging based in the Breast Imaging Unit at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital. The unit supports both breast screening and symptomatic services. The breast screening service is the second largest in England screening more than 60,000 women each year.
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Specialist Doctor to join our team of Consultant Radiologists, Breast Physicians, Consultant Radiographer and Consultant Nurse as well as the team of Radiographers and Specialist Nurses.
The Key tasks for the role of Specialist Doctor in Breast Imaging are:
Reading screening mammograms
Clinical and imaging assessment of screen detected abnormalities
Image guided breast biopsy and excision
All aspects of breast evaluation within the symptomatic service
MDT attendance and contribution.
Communication with patients, their relatives and carers, members of the multidisciplinary team, other specialties, GPs and the wider community service.
Administration related to clinical work
Teaching, training and supervision of other members of staff in the department in areas of own expertise.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Specialist Grade Doctor to join our team of Consultant Radiologists, Breast Physicians, Consultant Radiographer and Consultant Nurse as well as the team of Radiographers and Specialist Nurses.
We have a close working relationship with imaging, surgical and oncological specialties and are actively supporting clinical research and educational activities.
The department is a self-contained facility separate to the main hospital providing one stop clinics for new referrals, assessments from the National Breast Screening Service, and follow-up clinics for prior patients. There is a separate breast symptomatic service in Bedford based within the Outpatient Department.
The successful candidate will join a large multidisciplinary team and will work within the screening assessment clinics as well as the new patient one stop clinics. There will also be the possibility of supporting other activities as the role evolves and develops. There will be in-house training with the successful applicant within the clinics.
You will have 12 years full-time postgraduate clinical experience (or equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least 6 of which will be in the relevant specialty.
The Luton and Dunstable University Hospital (L&D) has always been renowned for its friendly atmosphere and good working relationships. The Hospital has an excellent track record of financial and senior executive stability.
The Trust has University Hospital status which provides an academic environment to the hospital. In addition to postgraduate training, we welcome medical students from the UCL Medical School throughout the year and by arrangement with the medical school provide a programme of clinical placements to support their education. We have an excellent reputation for junior staff training. Within the Centre of Multi-Professional Educational & Training (COMET) is the Medical Education Department, the library including an IT suite, and the Training & Development Department. The main aim of the Medical Education Department is to promote postgraduate and continuing medical education and training for all doctors and dentists. The Hospital actively promotes career development and progression for all staff.
The Hospital has excellent access to the surrounding areas with easy access to central London and the rural Chilterns. The rural areas include many attractive villages and towns within easy reach of the Hospital including St Albans and Harpenden. Excellent schools are found nearby. There is also very good access to the Midlands and North by road using the M1 or A1, or by rail to one of the Luton’s three stations. A direct link using the new ‘Busway’ takes passengers from Luton Train station just 7 minutes to reach a stop that is within a short walking distance of the hospital. London Luton Airport is within fifteen minutes of the hospital.
Applicants must be fully registered with the UK General Medical Council, and have a minimum of 12 years post graduate clinical experience with a minimum of 6 years in relevant specialty.
