Description:

JOB SUMMARY :

The compliance specialist maintains in-depth knowledge of current environmental regulations and safety and health laws as they apply to Plant Bowen and uses that knowledge to ensure compliance with permits and regulations. The compliance specialist interfaces with corporate environmental affairs and regulatory agencies and ensures notification in cases of non-compliance. This individual recognizes safety, health and environmental compliance issues that require attention and proactively addresses them. This position will be comprised of Industrial Hygiene Programs, Process Safety Program and Risk Management Program, Air Programs and NERC FERC ERO. This position will also serve as backup to our Water Programs, Waste Programs, Land Programs, SPCC/FRP, TRI and Tier II programs. This individual will demonstrate Our Values in all decisions and lead by example in Safety.
This position requires on-call duty rotation for nights and weekends and is subject to call out.
This position will be filled as either level 4 or 5 depending on experience.

JOB REQUIREMENTS :

(Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • In-depth knowledge of and ability to understand and interpret current environmental laws and regulations as they apply to the plant is required.
  • Knowledge of power plant operations preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills is required.
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills is required.
  • Previous experience creating and delivering presentations is desired.
  • Previous project management experience including interfacing with employees, contractors and regulatory agencies, reconciling invoices, budgeting, etc. is a plus.
  • Familiarity with CCR regulations is desired.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems and Air Monitoring Equipment and Reporting is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Self-Assessment processes is a plus.
  • Organize and maintain compliance files and records.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products is required.
  • Experience with other company specific software such as Maximo, Oracle, Avetta, and BRIDGE is desirable.
  • Capable of working efficiently and effectively across organizations.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures compliance with all programs: NPDES, Surface Water Withdrawal, Dredging, Non-Hazardous and Hazardous Waste, Used Oil, SPCC/FRP, Process Safety, RMP, Industrial Hygiene programs (hearing, respiratory protection, lead, asbestos, SDS administrator (3E), Title V, NERC ERO/CIP, TRI, Tier II reporting, etc.
  • Required to perform ash pond inspections onsite ensuring compliance with all CCR regulations, as well as Dam and Safety guidelines.
  • Direct maintenance activities for all environmental properties as identified through inspections and audits.
  • This position requires on-call duty rotation for nights and weekends and is subject to call out on weekends, nights, and holidays.
  • Ensures compliance with permits by data gathering and record keeping for necessary reports, necessary sampling, monitoring equipment, and interfacing with plant personnel.
  • Investigates non-compliance incidents, ensures notification of appropriate regulatory agencies takes place.
  • Develops and tracks short and long-term budgets to ensure that necessary funds are available to meet current and future environmental needs.
  • Prepares and submits all routine regulatory reporting for respective programs for Plant Bowen site.
  • Trains plant personnel on compliance related issues.
  • Writes and updates plant environmental compliance procedures.
  • Ensure all plant specific plans are reviewed and up to date.
  • Coordinator for Plant Bowen environmental stewardship initiatives.
  • Performs self-assessments on plant environmental programs and develop strategies and procedures to maintain compliance.
  • Ensures compliance training for all plant employees.
  • Assist in maintaining Plant Bowen Compliance SharePoint site and Corporate Environmental Recordkeeping SharePoint.
  • Track and Complete Enablon tasks for respective programs.
    This position has been identified as a role that will require the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle. The following will be required if you are selected for this position:
    Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver’s license).
    Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
