Position Purpose: The purpose of this position is to contribute to enhance the learning and
qualifications outcomes of Massey University’s students and the scholarly
programme of teaching, research, and publication, undertaking
postgraduate research supervision, and by providing administrative and
professional service to the university and the broader academic,
professional and general communities.

Accountabilities
Clinical • The candidate will be involved in the clinical provision of Emergency

and Critical Care Services and in clinical teaching.

  • The candidate must be willing to be included in the on-call roster in the

Companion Animal Hospital.
Teaching • Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching via all modes
of teaching and delivery mediums, including through electronic and

on-line technologies.

  • Design and develop the academic and administrative content of

courses and design the appropriate assessment criteria and

processes.

  • Coordinate and administer the teaching delivery and assessment of

all papers allocated from the University’s Integrated Paper

Programme (IPP).

  • Ensure that all teaching is research-informed and relevant, and that

course materials are regularly updated.

  • Allocate and supervise the teaching and marking of tutors/senior

tutors, graduate assistants, and technical support personnel.

  • Participate in the peer review of teaching to enhance the quality of

course design and delivery.

  • Arrange for regular student evaluations of teaching for all

papers/courses for which paper-coordination responsibilities have

been assigned.

  • Be accessible to students by providing consultation time on course-

related matters.

  • Undertake teaching on each of Massey University’s campuses as

required and through distance education.
Research and • Undertake an active and appropriate programme of academic
Scholarship - optional research, including participation in team-based research as
appropriate, to the level expected by the University’s Strategic

Research Capability Policy.

  • Publish books and papers and/or other scholarly works in academic

journals and other publications - including creative research

outputs if in the area of creative or expressive arts.

  • Review research papers and other scholarly publications.
  • Participate in and present research at academic conferences.
  • Contribute to School/Institute/University seminars and workshops.

  • Seek research funding where there is an opportunity to do so.
  • Submit recent publications data to Research Management Services

for entry onto the Research Information Management System

Responsibilities:

  • Serve on University and/or School/Institute committees.
  • Observe University policy and codes of practice in all teaching
