Are you an enthusiastic and motivated pharmacist who is interested in applying their clinical expertise in the areas of paediatrics, neonatology, and women’s health services? Come and join our progressive pharmacy team!
This newly created post will allow you to utilize your already developed skills as a fully independent practitioner but also develop your clinical role in this specialist area under the supervision of our experienced senior lead.
At ward level, you will be supported by a medicines management technician and medicines management assistant, allowing you to focus your energy on optimizing the patient’s medicines throughout their stay.

Working closely with other healthcare professionals, you will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team providing the ward-based clinical pharmacy service to patients of a pharmaceutically complex nature.
You will have completed or started a Clinical Diploma with a minimum of 1 year completed or have 24 months of experience in hospital pharmacy. Consideration will be given to those who do not meet this criteria but have a previous background in the specialist area.
Previous experience in paediatrics/neonatology is not essential for this role if you are enthusiastic about the specialty. All our specialist pharmacists are given the opportunity to complete their NMP qualification.
Our pharmacy department is progressive, motivated, and welcoming. There is an on-call requirement (remunerated per session), weekend, and Bank Holiday work, including participation in a weekend rota.

Responsibilities:

‍ ️ Communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals, members of the pharmacy team, and patients regarding the provision of medicines. This will include, where necessary, the legislation and safety of medicinal products, reporting of clinical incidents.
Provide advice to medical, nursing, and other healthcare professionals on the actions and uses of drugs and their safe and effective use. This will include patients with complex pharmaceutical needs.
Provide advice to patients and carers to enhance their understanding of their medicines and promote adherence.
‍ Undertake the line management duties to support the development of more junior pharmacists. Appraise staff as per Trust policy, which will involve identifying training and development needs.
Take responsibility for personal Continuing Professional Development in line with department and professional guidance. This includes undertaking all mandatory training required for the role.
Participate in continuous professional development within the Pharmacy Department, involving presentation and participation in departmental teaching sessions.
‍ Help deliver the pre-registration and junior pharmacist clinical pharmacy training programme.
Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of clinical pharmacy services for patients admitted to own area of responsibility and identify how these services can be improved. Develop guidelines for use in Pharmacy and the specialty to support this.
Support the implementation of local and national medicines-related guidance, including National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence guidelines and National Service Frameworks, within the specialty to ensure evidence-based medicine is practiced.
