In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO), the Specialist, Physician Engagement is responsible for establishing a consultative and supporting relationship with the Vancouver Island Health Authority’s (VIHA) physician and midwife providers in order to ensure the coordination of engagement and strategic activities with the physician community from a clinical informatics perspective. The Specialist acts as the primary communication link between the VIHA physician community and IM/IT regarding the potential impact of proposed organizational changes to clinical information systems operations and the potential impact of such changes in the automation of physician practice.
The Specialist, Physician Engagement will assist with the evaluation and analysis of clinical operations workflows and business processes presentations, communicate with the VIHA physician community and serve as a major participant in new clinical systems implementation.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Business, Communications, Marketing, Nursing, or Health Information Science with at least three (3) years’ relevant experience in the health care field including leading team development, end user engagement to support information system requirements and presentations to management teams.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Previous experience in a consultant role to facilitate a strategic direction, education planning and information system implementation is also required.
- Effective team skills which include exceptional customer service and interpersonal communication.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective consulting skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health care systems.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and follow through on potential/emerging issues needs and solutions.
- Understands how to receive and prioritize critical work.
- Ability to demonstrate a sense of urgency in a fast paced, health care environment.
- Exceptional Microsoft Office Suite - 2007 skills.
- Change management and problem solving skills.
