We have exciting opportunities for Occupational therapy at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. If you are passionate about patient care and supporting people with neurological impairments to optimise function this is the role for you. Are you an established Band 7 OT, or an experienced band 6 OT looking to progress your career?
The specialist rotation would suit an Occupational Therapist with a keen interest and clinical experience in stroke or neurology, who would like the opportunity to continue developing their specialist clinical skills alongside developing their skills in clinical leadership. Each rotation is 12 to 18 months and covers the following areas on the Charing Cross Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital sites;
Major Trauma Unit and Acute neuro rehab
Hyperacute (HASU) and Acute Stroke (ASU)
Acute Neurosciences/Neurosurgery
Neurological Rehabilitation (Charing Cross Neurological Rehabilitation Unit: Level 2b & Rapid Access to Acute Rehab
As part of the multi-disciplinary team you will be integral to the delivery of Occupational Therapy, team management and lead on service development and quality improvement projects. There are opportunities to be involved in research within the trust and thus develop your research skills and knowledge.
As a successful candidate you will have the opportunity to provide high quality Occupational Therapy to patients with a wide range of neurological conditions whilst growing your specialist experience and leadership skills in a welcoming and supportive environment.
You will receive regular supervision from the Lead therapist’s to support your clinical and professional development. We actively support continuing personal and professional development through an established performance development review (PDR) system, in-service training and external courses. There are also opportunities to undertake formal postgraduate study. Career progression is actively supported and encouraged. Imperial has developed a clinical academic pathway where the benefits of research and evidence-based practice is supported and promoted at all levels of staff from band 5 to 8.
We are open to discussng the option for static roles in these services, or secondments / fixed term contracts if these are your preference.
To be responsible for the provision of highly specialised occupational therapy assessment, treatment and management of patients managed under the neurosciences, stroke and trauma pathways who present as in-patients with a wide variety of neurological management needs. These comprise acute, chronic, complex, disabling and life-limiting conditions.
To determine clinical diagnosis and treatment indicated and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.
To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management and those of more junior staff providing a comprehensive and appropriate occupational therapy service to neurosciences, stroke and neuro-trauma.
To provide leadership to the in-patient neurosciences, stroke and trauma team alongside 4 band 7 neurosciences, stroke and trauma physiotherapists, and the Clinical therapy leads in neurosciences, stroke and trauma.
To undertake a significant clinical caseload working as an autonomous practitioner at a specialist level with other health professionals.
To be responsible for service development within the team, to implement policy and policy changes within the clinical area in partnership with MDT colleagues.
