Description:

Our Specialist Rotational Cancer Services & Aseptic Services Pharmacist roles involve working in both clinical cancer services and our pharmacy aseptic unit. This enables pharmacists to develop in both areas and act as a liaison between the two services to ensure the best possible service providing chemotherapy to our oncology/haematology patients on both sites.
The aseptic part of the role will also include involvement with paediatric chemotherapy, adult parenteral nutrition and participation in the radiopharmacy aseptic unit rota.
The clinical post offers the opportunity to gain experience in high-cost drugs, clinical trials, palliative care as well as oncology and haematology.
There is opportunity for further specialist postgraduate diplomas such as the PTQA or a clinical oncology diploma to be undertaken, if desired.
The postholder will be provided with the opportunity to undertake, and supported through, a non-medical prescribing qualification. Following completion of the non-medical prescribing qualification, the postholder will be able to become involved in clinic prescribing alongside other pharmacist prescribing colleagues.
Pharmacists will provide operational and clinical support to the pharmacy department according to the needs of the service. You will participate in weekend and on-call pharmacy services, and be involved with the supervision, training and support of junior pharmacists, foundation pharmacists and other pharmacy staff as necessary.

For Clinical Oncology

  • Provide and help develop the clinical pharmacy service to cancer wards, Sue Ryder Hospice and outpatient clinic areas in order to promote safe, rational, effective & economic use of medicines
  • Participation in the weekend pharmacy service rota as we move towards 7-day working.
  • Undertake teaching and clinical supervision of pharmacists, foundation pharmacists, Medicines Optimisation Technicians and undergraduate pharmacy students.
  • Undertake audits and service improvement projects within clinical pharmacy.
  • Impact upon pay and non-pay budgets: The post-holder is expected to exert a downward influence upon drug expenditure within the trust and demonstrate actual cost savings on individual wards by improving the efficiency of the prescribing and dispensing process.
  • Some day-to-day supervision of band 6 pharmacists covering wards (1-2 staff) and Medicines Optimisation technicians (1-2 staff)

For Aseptic Services

  • Participate in the provision of the aseptic service, primarily providing chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition
  • Assist with the training of staff in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Provide operational and managerial support for the Accountable Pharmacist and deputy
  • Undertake audits and service improvement projects
  • Day-to-day supervision of band 6 Pharmacists (1-2 staff) and technical staff within the aseptic unit
  • Participate in the Radiopharmacy rota
