Description:

Working with year and block leads, teaching fellows to develop, deliver and evaluate paediatric based curriculum for University of Sunderland and Newcastle University medical students. The role will involve organisational planning (both classroom and clinical based) as well as teaching for these year groups. There will also be opportunities to shape teaching style and develop novel or innovative teaching strategies. Overseeing student clinical placement is vital to ensure experiential learning is maximised.
The role will be structured around preparation, timetabling, delivery and evaluation of relevant paediatric curriculum, subject to discussions within the teaching team and agreement by the Consultant Block Leads and Year leads. The post holder will contribute to assessments including formative assessments during term time and summative OSCE and MOSLER exams. Support of exam standard setting and team marking of summative assessments are also expectations of the post holder. The post holder will also be responsible for overseeing the clinical placements of medical students to maximise learning experience.
The post holder would be a point of contact for students and undergraduate faculty for trouble shooting in regards to student placement allocation. Inter-professional learning opportunities should be made a priority. The post holder will be part of the Undergraduate Educational Team and will be part of the team meetings for University of Sunderland and Newcastle University both internally and externally. The specialist teaching fellow will work with senior team in ensuring we build an undergraduate departmental memory.
This will be achieved by being instrumental in developing standard operating procedures, adding to, and reviewing the undergraduate ultimate resource folder. Service development is vital in this role such as further developing simulation facilities for medical students. It would be expected for the post holder to attend both departmental and regional meetings across the universities to keep abreast of current issues and feed back to clinical teams. There is potential to apply masters in medical education and for honorary clinical/senior lecturer status at the Universities at the discretion of the DUCS and/or DUME.
The post holder will contribute to the joint Annual Quality visits involving the Foundation Programme and Undergraduate Programme at University of Sunderland. The post holder will attend Senior Team Meetings and LEP liaison group where appropriate. The post holder will be liaise with the UoS to contribute to the following: Exams i.e. OSCE and MOSLER Undergraduate Faculty courses as required.
