Description:

We are looking to appoint a Specialty Doctor with a keen interest in Stroke Medicine. We are a forward thinking albeit smaller District General Hospital, with big ambitions. Within our senior clinicians we have nurse and AHP consultants with regional and national responsibilities. This includes ISDN leadership roles, Associate director of SSNAP and editor for the National Clinical Guidelines for Stroke.
Our stroke department provides a seven-day service for circa 530 stroke patients admitted annually from West Dorset. We provide a 24/7 thrombolysis service, 7/7 stroke ward rounds, a 5-day TIA service (in SDEC), stroke follow up clinics and refer to University Hospital Southampton for mechanical thrombectomy. We have close and excellent working relationships with colleagues in the emergency and radiology departments.
The successful post holder would be supported with a mentor, and we are all highly approachable. We would welcome applications from LTFT candidates. DCH is a small hospital where staff work collaboratively as a team and there are many opportunities for career development which would not be present in larger centres.

We are seeking a further speciality doctor to provide day to day stroke care and support with the continued transformation of stroke services in line with our strategy and recent business case approval. This will include;
In-patient and out-patient care for patients referred with suspected stroke or TIA
To participate in clinical and other activities such audit, research and governance with the object of ensuring ongoing high standards of patient care
To assist with Stroke rehabilitation and TIA clinics
This post will be within the Department of Medicine for Older People (MOP), focussing on work in Stroke Services. We are an inclusive and progressive department which aims to develop individuals based on their existing skills and future career goals. The successful applicant will join a well-established, successful, enthusiastic team and will have the opportunity to participate in the development of services in a friendly district general hospital. The post holder will assist in delivering our stroke services including acute stroke unit, stroke rehabilitation, TIA clinic and stroke thrombolysis.
