Description:
The successful applicant will be based on one of our COTE wards. They will be expected to support the Consultant ward rounds, attend the daily board rounds and provide higher level medical support and patient review on the wards, or frailty unit. The candidate would also be expected to lead their own ward rounds independently, or with assistance from a junior member of the team. The candidate demonstrates will be allocated an experienced geriatrician to help achieve and document competencies to support career progression.
We expect the post holder to participate in ward based teaching with junior and MDT staff and actively encourage their engagement with e-portfolio and training opportunities. Attendance at departmental specialty out-patient clinics would be expected. The post holder would also be part of the referral rota, seeing referrals from other medical and surgical specialties to give specialty COTE advice (with Consultant support and supervision where necessary). This post would include participation in the medical registrar on-call rota, managing the unselected acute medical take.
Education and training The introduction of the Gloucestershire Academy for University of Bristol medical students in 2004 means that our department provides learning opportunities including regular teaching sessions for year 4 medical students during their Year 4 Care of the Elderly/Primary care/Dermatology curriculum unit. At GRH there is a weekly medical grand round in which all specialties and individual consultants are expected to participate. The COTE department runs a weekly dedicated teaching program that members of the department are invited to attend
