Description:

Job overview
Opportunities are available at The Royal Oldham Hospital for experienced doctors who can provide demonstrable expertise in intensive care and anaesthesia in order to deliver a high-quality independent service and manage complex cases with reference to a consultant.
This post will involve 3 month rotating blocks between intensive care including some days within theatres, then a 3-month block of purely theatres and maternity. This pattern will continue over the 2-year fixed term.
The post holder will complement existing services through the provision of specialist knowledge & expertise in intensive care medicine and anaesthesia.
The post holder is therefore required to have full registration with the General Medical Council & a valid licence to practice and will have completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
The appointment is for two years fixed term with the potential for extension by mutual agreement.
Main duties of the job
During the 3-month ICU blocks, applicants will spend their short day shifts in theatres providing elective and emergency anaesthetic care. We have a track record of successfully supporting experienced candidates from abroad to work in the NHS and have supported specialty doctors to achieve some of the competences required for CESR applications subject to the requirements of the service.
This could include modules in Intensive care medicine, obstetrics and neurosurgery as well as across the surgical specialties listed above.
During the Anaesthesia 3-month blocks, the post holder will be responsible, under the supervision of the consultant, for the day-to-day care of patients covering lists in theatre across the surgical specialties. You will be expected to play a full part in the relevant departmental rota. This will include on call days and nights on either the theatre oncall or maternity rota depending on experience.
We will aim to get the applicant competency in Obstetrics Anaesthesia if needed so that future anaesthesia blocks can include obstetric oncall.
Applicants with appropriate experience may be allocated daytime solo lists with a named consultant supervisor.
During the post, you will be assigned an educational supervisor and have regular appraisals with help to build your portfolio. Time will be allotted to attend local teaching. You will be expected with other team members to participate in audit and quality improvement projects in the department.
