Description:

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join their outpatient therapy team.
They will work closely work with the Speech and Language Therapists and perform a wide range of tasks to provide care around swallowing and communication for patients in various community settings, including clinics, care homes and patients’ own homes. This will include carrying out prescribed therapy programmes and providing rehabilitation for swallow and communication impaired patients, as well as supporting in group therapy.
They will support the team with administrative and clerical tasks; making therapy and training resources; stock-checking therapy supplies and house-keeping duties..
Full training will be provided and you will have access to regular supervision with a Speech and Language Therapist, monthly team meetings and regular training sessions to ensure you are well supported in this role.

JOB SUMMARY:

The post holder will be involved in providing high standard care within our outpatient Speech and Language Therapy service.
They will closely work with the Therapists and perform a wide range of tasks to provide care around swallowing and communication for patients within the community setting. This will include liaising with patients, healthcare professionals and carers to support patient management.
They will support the team with administration and house-keeping duties.
They will monitor stock levels of swallowing assessment supplies and completing orders.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Complete administration tasks around new referrals and patient discharge including phone calls to patients/carers, completing onward referrals and updating the GP of current recommendations.
Liaising with patients and healthcare professionals with regard to checking the tolerance of new swallowing recommendations.
Book patients for bi-weekly videofluoroscopy clinics and organise and set up the clinics under the supervision of a Speech and Language Therapist.
Prepare the FEES clinic including decontamination of equipment.
Complete audits under supervision.
Under the direction of a qualified registered therapist assist with patient therapy activities.
To be able to accurately report back to the therapists any work undertaken.
Monitor stock and keep up-to-date with documentation i.e. filing and photocopying.
To assist patient with independent prescribed practice provided by qualified therapists.
To assist in communication screens when required.
To assist with other assistant duties across the wider therapies team as required.
To assist with administration activities such as processing referrals on relevant IT systems, taking telephone calls.
