    Where the team fits in
    The SPACE tribe within the Technology and Data Group is responsible for driving REA’s internal tooling, infrastructure, and making all delivery teams at REA more effective. We work on a wide range of technical products and solutions as required by other groups across the company, such as cloud deployment tools, CI/CD pipelines, networking, security, monitoring and deployment. We also consult to our many product delivery teams to help them bring their solutions to life.
    What the role is all about

With us, you’ll have an Impact. As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining our products in a collaborative team environment. You will be expected to implement solutions using a variety of programming languages, databases and cloud technologies. You will also be part of a small team that is responsible for day-to-day operation/maintenance of existing SQL environments.

  • Designing, coding, testing and deploying new software products using a variety of technologies and platforms.
  • Maintaining existing products, including bug fixes and “Business As Usual” feature enhancements.
  • Installation & configuration of SQL Server instances & clusters
  • Data and Server migration to cloud services
  • Building high quality solutions that meet the needs of our users.
  • Leading the implementation of major features.
  • Providing technical mentoring and guidance to less experienced members of the team

Who we’re looking for

  • Experience in database programming, strong T-SQL stored procedure skills & data warehouse design.
  • Experience in designing and implementation of ETL processes (SSIS)
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to “deep-dive” into data
  • Ability to design and implement a database solution end-to-end, from broad concepts agreed with the team, to architecting the solution, and final delivery of stored procedures to be integrated by the applications team
  • Advanced skills in modern software development techniques such as object orientation, test driven development and continuous delivery.
  • Experience with MS SQL Server Always ON and other high availability solutions
  • Able to be effective in a collaborative team environment.
  • Tertiary qualification in Computer Science or similar highly desirable.
  • Looks at tricky situations through a solutions-focused lens
  • Enterprise system experience with large institutional clients with a focus on security and availability
  • Someone passionate about data and the latest data technologies
  • Expertise with build pipelines, continuous integration and delivery
  • Experience in Cloud database solutions

Nice to Have

  • Experience in cloud services (BigQuery / AWS / RDS / Azure)
  • Experience in large data migration
  • Experience in AirFlow / Buildkite
  • Experience in Data lake & Kafka
