SKILLS:

  • Experienced in planning own activities and input to larger team activities.
  • Delivering to agreed plans.
  • Highly skilled at analysing data to determine trends and patterns to proactively mitigate service affecting issues.
  • Proven ability to convey technical information to non-technical people and the business risks and impacts. Ability to help influence decisions and outcomes at all levels.
  • Knowledge of aligned platforms with SQL Server such a WINTEL to input into design reviews and approvals.
  • Experience of working with Virtualisation Technologies such as VMWare.
  • DBA experience: monitoring, backup and recovery, high availability, troubleshooting, capacity planning, security, upgrades (SQL versions/patches/hotfixes).
  • Project work: installation and configuration, database upgrades/migrations/copies.
  • TSQL scripting, PowerShell, SSIS – SQL Server Integration Services, SSRS – SQL Server Reporting Services,
  • Performance Tuning: Performance monitor, SQL Server Profiler, DMVs, Resource Governor.
  • Availability Groups, Clustering, Log Shipping, Replication, Encryption
  • Extensive experience of supporting SQL Server Databases in a complex, multi-site, environments
  • ITIL: experience working with incidents, service requests, changes, problems.
  • Experience and available for 24/7 on-call rota and Out of Hours planned work.

DESIRABLE

  • Monitoring tools: SCOM. Azure Monitor, Dynatrace
  • Backups tools: Avamar.
  • Experience of key applications related to SQL Server: Remedy, SCOM, SharePoint, and Citrix. Web services.
  • SSAS - SQL Server Analysis Services SSIS, SSRS - Ideally experience of PowerBI
  • Relevant SQL Server certifications aligned to supporting TfL essential SQL Server technologies listed above.
  • Project work: installation and configuration, database upgrades/migrations/copies.

Responsibilities:

As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will carry out day to day technical activities, guided by a Senior Engineer. The role also is required to work on projects implementing and enhancing databases for TfL applications. Some engagement with stakeholders such as Project Manager, Developers, End Users, Product Manager and Infrastructure engineers from other IT Infrastructure technologies is required. The team is responsible for the lifecycle support of current products versions and existing legacy ones.
There may also be requirement to support out of hours work and on-call for TfL’s 24/7 supported services.
