POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Advisor contributes knowledge and provides guidance in First Nations culture and values to the Office of the Chief Nursing Officer (OCNO) in all activities related to Cultural Safety and Humility.
In this role, you will work in collaboration with the Director to provide strategic advice on partnerships, policy initiatives, and key projects. You will be the subject matter expert and a representation of the values and beliefs that drive the Cultural Safety and Humility strategy.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provides strategic advice and expertise to Director and VP, with focus on alignment with First Nations culture, history and perspectives, to be shared with executives, senior management, and key internal and external partners.
  • Provides advice and guidance to Director and VP on establishing a sound framework for Cultural Safety and Humility that integrates the BC First Nation perspectives, customs, traditions, and belief systems.
  • Leads collaboration processes that demonstrates First Nations culture and values related to cultural safety and humility provincially and nationally.
  • Contributes expertise to and/or leads system-wide strategic partnerships and agreements and action plans related to cultural safety and humility.
  • Provides advisory, development, and support services to ensure that First Nations cultural considerations are within change management, training, and curriculum initiatives.
  • Reviews, researches, and provides expertise to ensure cultural appropriateness and relevance in contents for documents, correspondences, presentations and briefing notes.

MANAGEMENT SUPPORT

  1. Support the implementation of quality standards and appropriate processes in the work of the team
  2. Develop and oversee work plans and project plans, and provides senior level advice related to budgets as required
  3. Provide supervision as appropriate for assigned projects and contracts

EDUCATION

  • University Degree in Public Health, Political or Social Science, Health or Public Administration, First Nations Governance, Leadership or other related fields of study, plus 6 to 8 years of related advanced experience in senior policy, strategist, or management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience working with First Nations
  • Experience in providing advice and guidance in First Nations culture, experience, and visions.
  • Significant policy and strategy development and analysis experience

  • Awareness - Thorough knowledge of the current First Nations health governance landscape in BC and the critical issues and opportunities for BC First Nations health.
