What to Expect
Tesla produces the most sophisticated energy storage systems in the world, with the aim of revolutionizing the world’s energy grid.
The Energy Optimization team develops and maintains algorithmic control systems for Megapacks, Powerwalls, Virtual Power Plants, and microgrids. Our systems continuously forecast solar production, energy and demand prices, determine optimal control strategies and dispatch energy in real-time. We have repeatedly demonstrated success in residential, commercial, and utility-scale settings.
We are looking for talented optimization engineers to help build the platforms necessary for the next phase of our growth. You will develop production-grade forecasting, optimization and control strategies, that will be deployed into real-time embedded systems in the field. You will contribute to analytics platforms used for algorithm development and training. You will own production systems and be responsible for their performance. Your work will help enable optimal control of hundreds of gigawatt-hours around the globe.
Opportunity to join a strong team growing quickly in scope and importance to Tesla.

  • Define, develop and maintain monitoring and simulation systems to programmatically detect and diagnose performance issues
  • Contribute to a culture of technical excellence and deliver impactful value to the business.
  • Work cross-functionally with software embedded systems and cloud
  • Inform product definition and business development

What You’ll Bring

  • Fluency in Linux, Git, and Python with a strong predilection for good software and the processes that make it
  • Proven ability to develop and operate resilient systems, embedded and cloud
  • Experience with a wide range of numerical methods for optimization, control, and forecasting
  • Familiarity with stochastic optimization, dynamic programming and energy domain
  • Proficiency with or willingness to learn a wide variety of languages such as Go or Rust
  • Modeling physical power systems, energy storage and electricity markets
  • A track record of developing novel products
