Description:
GENERAL SUMMARY
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Senior Automation Designer is responsible for overseeing all mechanical design aspects within a project from start to finish. This role involves preparing and interpreting technical drawings, calculations, and customer specifications to develop design prototypes. Utilizing programs such as Solidworks and AutoCAD, they generate 3D models and 2D detailing for various design iterations. The Senior Automation Designer will also produce detailed prints and assembly drawings while also writing equipment manuals and maintenance schedules.

- In-depth knowledge of knowledge of ANSI drawing standards, GD&T, and CAD (Solidworks).
- Ability to use MS Word and Excel applications.
- Knowledge of deploying robotic systems.
- Knowledge of electric, hydraulic and pneumatic propulsion systems.
- Basic understanding of sensor selection, teaching and vision systems.
- Ability to work overtime if needed and/or work flexible shifts.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent certificate (GED) is required.
- Post-secondary education or certification in a related field is preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in Automation Design is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged periods of standing while working.
- Prolonged periods of sitting while working on a computer.
Responsibilities:
- All aspects of mechanical design.
- Prepare and interpret technical drawings, calculations, customer standards and specifications.
- 3D modelling and 2D detailing to create multiple iterations of design prototypes using Solidworks and AutoCAD.
- Generate and organize manufactured and purchased BOMs.
- Maintain budget and timelines.
- Prepare and produce detail prints and assembly drawings.
- Write equipment manuals, maintenance schedules and reports.
- Assist in the training and development of the Junior Automation Designers.
- Ensure all completed designs match customer specifications.
- Support the Assembly and Controls departments during design, assembly and debug stages of a project.
- Troubleshoot and work with team members in determining viable solutions for design issues.
- Assist the Engineering Manager in providing information for the initial quoting stage.
- Perform FEA, as well as machine, process and robotic simulations.
- Maintain and adhere to customer standards, ISO standards, and company standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
