SENIOR CLINICAL INTEGRATION ARCHITECT

Department: Clinical Information Services

Hours of Work: Temporary Part-Time Position; Days;1000-1400 (4 hr shifts) (Approximately 12 months)
Pay Band: Band W $48.10 - $53.30

Location: Kingston General Hospital Site

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Computer Informatics, Computer Science, Health Informatics or Related Discipline.
  • Minimum 4+ years of experience focused on designing and configuring integrations with an understanding of hospital information systems or IT systems.
  • Ability to identify and analyze issues and provide solutions using problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent prioritization, organizational skills, and project management methodologies, as demonstrated by the ability to manage own time and successfully complete multiple tasks and projects assigned simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with all levels of stakeholders and management to provide efficient customer service
  • Demonstrated good judgment, decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with little direct supervision and within a team
  • Demonstrated skills in working with all levels of staff in an organization and the ability to work with external groups, agencies, and/or individuals
  • Knowledge of principles and methodology of systems development life cycle
  • Working knowledge of common MS-Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Demonstrated skills and experience of at least 4+ years in data flow mapping and other documentation methodologies support integration activities
  • Working knowledge and experience of at least 4+ years working with interface standards such as HL7 2.X and FHIR
  • Knowledge and understanding of RESTful web API implementations and methodologies

  • Knowledge of software development methodology as demonstrated through at least 4+ years of experience in software development and coding in a corporate system setting using the principles of software development methodology.

  • Experience of at least 4+ in various reporting and query languages (e.g. SQL)
  • Experience of at least 4+ years in software programming languages
  • Understanding and experience using quality assurance principles in a corporate setting.
  • Excellent communication skills in both written and oral forms as demonstrated through preparation of technical, training, change management or project documents that engaged users and through presentations to and running of focus groups for multi-disciplinary staff.

Responsibilities:

Integration Activities: Coordinate the design, testing, integration, and maintenance activities across the system.

  • Work with clinical system vendors and the Lumeo operations team to manage the data flows and other points of integrations between clinical systems or clinical systems and clinical devices.
  • Draft and maintain the complete integration architecture across KHSC Clinical Systems
  • Develop, deploy and maintain inbound and outbound integrations from the Lumeo Regional interface engines in a variety of methods (i.e. flat files, HL7, FHIR, etc.)
  • Maintain the KHSC integration engines, tools and software (i.e. Rhapsody interface engine, JCAPs, eGate, Cerner integration modules)
  • May work on integrations that rely on various APIs, middleware, gateway solutions
  • Manage regular Change Control processes and calls, collaborate with integrated teams to conduct impact assessments, and provide necessary approvals
  • Act as escalation point for integration projects and activities
  • Play leadership role when it comes to solution design in close collaboration with other team members across the Information Management portfolio.
  • Raise Rhapsody product defects and resolve with the vendor as appropriate.

Software Development: Leads the software development approaches and is responsible for every aspect of the software development process; including but not limited to:

  • Creating, revising, and enforcing software development standards
  • Developing custom software solutions to achieve hospital or departmental goals
  • Planning and distributing development tasks within the team
  • Conducts regular quality and system performance reviews, including details related to software, hardware, and database performance.
  • Reviewing project deliverables
  • Provide on-call support on rotational basis to ensure software issues that occur off hours are resolved
  • Assisting other software analysts when issues arise
  • Participating in software development
  • Ensuring all deliverables are thoroughly tested, and documented
  • Implementing deliverables following established change management processes

Project Management and Coordination: manages related projects as assigned by the Director to completion. Examples include:

  • Coordination of complex integration or software activities such as new integration points or requiring re-engineering
  • Tracking project activities and reporting progress to the Director of Clinical Systems on a routine basis.
  • Assess and recommend project strategies for new requests
  • Coordinate testing of new functionality within relevant KHSC stakeholders
  • Document system issues and resolutions for future references, (as applicable)
  • Contribute and document procedures, guidelines, and project communications for clinical areas, attends on-going team meetings, monthly/ad hoc vendor and end-user meetings.

Operational Support: Support the wide range of clinical system integration applications and affiliated devices. Provide on-call support on a rotational basis to ensure points of integrations are operational 24/7. Support the use and adoption of ServiceNow and ITIL processes within clinical information systems. This includes developing new clinical information system service requests, monitoring ticket history to generate new service requests and general evaluation of use.
Education/Innovation: Maintains a good working knowledge of KHSC applications and their interrelationships with other systems; maintains knowledge of technological advances; maintains knowledge of how the hospital conducts its business; acts as trainer and mentor to junior Information Management staff; active participant in evaluating and experimenting new technology.
Other: Identifies and informs workstream managers of opportunities for optimizing the system to better support end-users, in conjunction with the stakeholders. Provides performance feedback.
