MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Health & Safety, or related degree (or minimum of 10 years professional experience in Fleet Safety & DOT Compliance)
- Extensive knowledge of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) regulations (CFR – Title 49)
- Eight (8) years practical experience in managing systemwide fleet assets.
- Eight (8) years practical experience in interpreting, monitoring, and explaining USDOT – FMCSA regulations.
- Experience performing DOT FMCSA Compliance Assessments and interacting with State/Federal regulatory agencies.
- Certified Transportation Professional – or ability to complete certification within 1 year of hire.
- OSHA 30-Hour (or within 60 days of hire – online is available*)
- Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification or ability to get certification within two years of hire.
- Certified “Smith System Driving Instructor” or obtain within six months of hire.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general compliance reports, technical procedures, and/or government regulations.
- Experience developing company policy & procedures associated with Fleet Safety Programs and assuring DOT Compliance
Responsibilities:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee national fleet safety strategy and compliance with FMCSR
- Design, establish, and implement enterprise policies and processes to reduce collisions and prevent injury
- Creates and implements Vehicle Collision Review Committees at select locations
- Reviews vehicle incident investigation findings for accuracy and completion and “preventability” determinations (root-cause analysis), and employs appropriate corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Reviews driver injuries and collaborates with EHS team to develop injury reduction programs
- Monitors Electronic Logging Device (ELD) and Electronic Vehicle Inspection Reports (EDVIR) for compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR’s) and Company policies.
- Champions safety efforts in communications to all transportation associates, including reviewing the pre-shift weekly safety messages.
- Researches, initiates, and promotes the fleet safety program.
ADDITIONAL PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts DOT regulatory training to include driver qualification, hours-of-service, driver vehicle inspection reports, and drug/alcohol testing.
- Manage team to specify, procure, track, and sell vans, trucks, tractors, trailers, and other fleet assets.
- Develop operational strategy for electric and alternative fuel vehicles.
- Ensure fleet assets meet all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
- Ensures all transportation employees operating CMVs are fully qualified and maintain driver qualification records in support of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR)
- Develops DOT compliance audit program and assures national implementation.
- Monitor and report on fleet safety metrics and ensure correct action to address deficiencies.
- Ensure national and regional partners are regularly engaged to embed best practices at all levels of the organization.
- Manage and develop a team of fleet safety professionals to drive company safety goals ensure nationwide coverage of critical support.
- Coach, train, direct, and counsel team on overall performance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
