MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience in power system operations.
  • Experience in the operations and maintenance of electrical facilities, electrical regulations, or dispatching of power.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, collaborative, and relationship building skills with demonstrated experience both within and outside an organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in system operations of Electric Traction facilities.
  • Demonstrated operational planning experience.
  • Demonstrated management experience in a matrix organization.
  • Must be able to motivate others and drive for results.
  • Must be able to take a lead role in assignments and deliverables.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 12 years of experience in system operations of Electric Traction facilities.
  • 7 years of experience in the operations and maintenance of electrical facilities, electrical regulations, or dispatching of power.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
The salary/hourly range is $103,700-$134,460. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation. Responsibilities:

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

This position is responsible for system operations of Amtrak’s Electric Traction Department Boston Power Director Office located in Boston, Massachusetts. Position is responsible to directly supervise the safety of operations, resources, the configuration and switching of the transmission, substation, and trolley electrification system components. Ensure the Power Director Office is operated in a safe, economical, and reliable manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises 8 agreement covered Power Director employees in a 24-hour 7 days a week operation.
  • Manages the system operations for the Electric Traction Department’s operating zone 10 which covers 228.9 in Boston, MA to the Division Post MP 72.9 in New Haven, CT.
  • Provides technical direction and oversight to direct reports that operate and dispatch the traction power network within their assigned territory.
  • Perform operational planning analysis on all planned outage requests prior to being approved to ensure Amtrak’s traction power system’s integrity, stability and configuration is maintained.
  • Coordinate Electric Traction functions and planned outages within, and other departments as required.
  • Ensure the methods and materials for all Power Director training is sufficient.
  • Develop and provide the Power Directors with real time operational simulation drills to enhance their skills in system restoration for unplanned outages.
  • Respond appropriately to abnormal system conditions and problems, to minimize the impact to the electrification system and train operations.
  • Disseminate information throughout the system as required.
  • Develop and ensure compliance of Electric Traction policies and operating guidelines for electrical system operations.
  • Collaborate with division project managers and supervisors on planned outage requests.
  • Provide root cause analysis and corrective actions on Electric Traction system outages and failures.
