Job Description

THE POSITION

The Sr. Hardware Service & Support Engineer in Continental Autonomous Mobility plays a pivotal role in the build up of Continental’s Service and Maintenance operations in our partnership with Aurora. This position will help define our Hardware-as-a-Service operations & procedures, with close collaboration to our customer and partner, Aurora and our hardware refurbishment center in New Braunfels. We’re looking for candidates willing and capable to wear many hats with a can-do attitude to help blaze the trail for a new business model within Continental.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant Engineering discipline
  • 2 years relevant Engineering experience
  • Experience in project management, project coordination and/or resident engineer demonstrating strong self-motivation, work and time management.
  • Detail oriented problem solver who pays attention to the little things that have a big impact on operational efficiency.
  • Experience in customer incident problem solving and root cause analysis.
  • Experience with design and diagramming software such as AutoCAD, Sketchup, Visio or similar.
  • Technical documentation and field service procedure development.
  • Must be willing to work off-site for some assignments including customer locations.
  • Good communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Fluent speaking and advanced writing (English).
  • Strong Organizational Skills, Self-motivated.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 years relevant experience
  • 4+ years’ experience working in or managing a lab and/or garage environment and relevant quality & safety standards in a garage or workshop environment.
  • Experience building and instrumenting development vehicles with focus on advanced sensor systems and safety critical vehicle systems.
  • Experience with setup and administration of Asset management systems.
  • Experience and familiarity with ADAS sensors and applications and their constraints, limitations, and failure modes.
  • Experience with design, fabrication and prototyping of mechanical systems such as brackets, racking, instrumented calibration systems.
  • Electrical & mechanical design, fabrication, service, and maintenance.
  • Commercial Vehicle Driver’s License (CDL)
    Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops and implements standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation of hardware-as-a-service parts, utilizing knowledge in engineering and technical fields, such as computer, electrical, or mechanical.
Devises service and maintenance procedures, and designs and develops forms, instructions, and tooling requirements for performing.
Devises remanufacturing and refurbishing procedures, instructions, and tooling for hardware-as-a-service parts.
Develop technical service documentation and training content to support efficient inspection and field service of hardware-as-a-service parts.
Establishes and administers program to define field serviceable components and related service kits, based on field reliability and endurance testing, and mechanical systems design to find the right balance between field service and remanufacturing of hardware-as-a-service parts.
Develop and support early reliability testing and field services as needed to ensure Continental most efficiently manages its hardware as a service products’ during the warranty period. This may include vehicle instrumentation and repair, data acquisition, and prototype design and assembly.
Triage and problem solve level 2 field service claims, communicating technical findings back to R&D teams to issue corrective actions pre-SOP of hardware-as-a-service operations.
Act as level 3 support towards fleet service technicians and AD kit refurbishment centers for incident and problem resolution for hardware-as-a-service operations.
