Overview:
Under general direction serves as a business partner and enabler of HR functions to assigned client group. The position provides a broad range of human resources services in support of business objectives and human resources initiatives. These services include staffing, employee and labor relations, organizational effectiveness, talent management, compensation and benefits, and training and development. Works independently with minimal guidance using knowledge of HR operations, policies & procedures. This is a senior skill level normally without supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Builds relationships with managers/supervisors in client group to better understand the business and provide counsel that will ultimately improve the hiring, retention and development of staff. Begins to build relationships that will facilitate the involvement of human resources in the decision-making process and represents HR policies and corporate goals and values in the business setting.
  • Consults with business line leadership on issues of talent acquisition and retention. Coordinates staffing efforts implements internal and external recruitment strategies to satisfy client staffing requirements. Provides counsel on effective recruitment strategies/techniques and in the implementation of corporate staffing programs.
  • Responds to employee relations and labor relations issues; assists in coaching employees and managers on performance management and execution of performance improvement plans. In problematic and challenging situations, will seek the advice and counsel of other senior HR generalists.
  • Assists in the coordination of the Annual Performance Appraisal/Salary Planning process and facilitate the annual administration process. Partner with client group leadership to develop job descriptions for open positions or position re-evaluations.
  • Assists in the coordination of Benefits Open Enrollment and provides the necessary support to the roll-out of all benefit programs and related communications.
  • Along with senior HR generalists’ partners with client group leadership to identify training needs and staff development opportunities to optimize division and department performance. Assists in the development and implementation of management and employee training and development programs to meet client group job and performance requirements. Assists in coordinating the development and implementation of management and employee continuity and succession planning efforts.
  • Supports the labor relations function through the establishment and maintenance of satisfactory labor-management relations including assisting in establishing and coordinating management’s policies regarding labor relations; maintaining proactive and positive relations with the union; participating in labor contract negotiations; overseeing labor contract administration and participating as needed in arbitration and grievance hearings.
  • Directs client group Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Affirmative Action (AA) and diversity programs to meet established corporate and client group goals and objectives. On matters concerning EEO and AA, the incumbent, together with more senior HR generalists provides the methods and means to ensure that the client is in compliance with all federal and state regulations that affect employment practices. Assists client groups in championing PPL’s core values and vision and directs Diversity Program initiatives.
  • Provides feedback to corporate HR on the business unit needs and priorities to assist with improving process and/or programs. Obtains and analyzes information and reports to assess effectiveness of HR practices and actions. Looks for process improvement initiatives that will yield better and more effective results.

Qualifications:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and five years of HR experience.2. Conceptual knowledge of the human resource functions including: Compensation and Benefits, Labor Relations, Staffing and Training and Development.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two to four years of HR Generalist experience.
  • SPHR or PHR certification.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to link business objectives with HR initiatives.
  • Strong client-service orientation, ability to work well with individuals on all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications & databases.
