JOB DESCRIPTION:

We seek a talented and dedicated software engineer to support Machine Learning/Natural Language Processing (ML/NLP). This person would work closely with our Data Scientists, product teams, DevOps, and content experts to enhance and optimize existing NLP engines and ML models, and to develop new ones. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in ML and NLP, along with practical experience with health or other highly sensitive data.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with ML and NLP technologies with a focus on applications using regulated data, healthcare preferred. Experience with NLG technologies and/or generative AI preferred.
  • Experience creating and managing large and complex data sets for use in AI or other advanced analytic models with corresponding languages like SQL, R, SAS and Python.
  • Experience with big data and cloud computing environments, Azure and Snowflake preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in applicable programming languages such as Python, Java, SQL
  • Experience with ML and NLP libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, NLTK, spaCy, Scikit-learn. Familiarity with health-related LLMs and GenAI tools such as LangChain desirable.
  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, ML DevOps (build, continuous integration, deployment) and best practices using DevOps framework and GitHub.
  • Familiarity with healthcare data standards and experience in working with EHRs, medical coding, or risk adjustment is highly desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with Data Scientists and product experts to evaluate opportunities for applying ML and NLP technologies to improve the quality and efficiency of health care; to scale and optimize efficiency of internal processes; and to find insights latent in the data that may not be discoverable otherwise.
  • For compelling opportunities, collaborate with product designers, content experts, data science colleagues, and DevOps specialists to design, develop, train, evaluate, deploy, monitor, and to maintain robust ML and NLP applications.
  • Help optimize existing ML models and NLP solutions for better accuracy and performance, particularly in processing healthcare-related data.
  • Work with content experts and data architects to build and improve data pipelines to ensure seamless data flow and integration for ML and NLP applications.
  • Design and conduct the training, testing, and validating ML/NLP models, working closely with data curators/SMEs and data scientists to ensure that good AI practices are followed, and that models achieve sufficient performance (statistical, operational, privacy/security) to warrant deployment within a healthcare setting.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments in ML and NLP technologies, and with best practices in “responsible AI”.
  • Ensure adherence to data privacy and security standards specific to the healthcare industry.
