The PolicyLink Team within Life and Annuity Systems is seeking a Senior Cobol Developer for our Galveston, TX location.
The successful Senior Cobol Developer is an experienced application developer who can pair technical concepts and skills with knowledge of the Company’s internal policies and procedures to solve complex problems in creative, effective, and efficient ways to support annuity product development. Significant initiative and independent judgement are required to complete these tasks within the context of established goals and objectives. This incumbent will primarily be responsible for enhancements, new development, and maintenance of annuity and payout administration systems.

Essential Functions and Duties:

  • Communicates fluently with business representatives
  • Understands business requirements and/or actuarial product specifications and can relate these to the supporting system requirements producing technical specifications for the work to be done
  • Codes readable, reliable, and maintainable programs
  • Performs testing of code changes
  • Reviews test results with business representatives
  • Provides optimal service to all internal and external customers
  • Responds promptly to production issues by serving in the team’s on-call rotation for the 24-hour support of the team’s systems
  • Works occasional night and weekend hours to meet target dates

Qualifications:

  • Mathematics, Actuarial Science or IT-related bachelor’s degree, or application programming experience
  • Four or more years of application development experience
  • Advanced proficiency in programming with an emphasis in Visual COBOL, SQL Server, and REST, and/or SOAP
  • PolicyLink experience is a plus
  • Annuity knowledge is also a plus
  • Accounting, valuation, and/or product development is desirable
  • Experience with agile methods such as Scrum is a plus
  • Agile mindset is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
