POSITION DESCRIPTION
SickKids’ Research Institute is seeking a Sr. Project Manager with expertise delivering complex IT projects and programs.
In this role, you will be a member of Research IT on the Project Management & Application Support team, which provides project, product, IT risk analysis, and application support services to the SickKids research community (staff, scientists, and faculty). You will work closely with colleagues within IT, Research Operations, Clinical Research Services, and other functional areas across the organization to successfully deliver solutions for the research community.
We are currently looking for a highly motivated project professional to join the team leading an important business and technology transformation program. Our goal is to improve the internal experience of SickKids research community by implementing new technologies, transforming processes, and fostering a culture that accelerates breakthrough research and clinical translation. To be successful in the role, you will need to develop close working relationships within the Research Institute, a comprehensive understanding of the strategic drivers for the organization, as well as an understanding of the organization’s capacity for change.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- 5 years work experience as a Project Manager in a technical / IT environment, with at least 2 years in a senior role.
- Project Management Certification (PMP, PRINCE2) or master’s in project management.
- Experience managing project budgets of $1 million or greater; including tracking and monitoring project financials.
- Experience on complex IT initiatives, system integration projects, and implementing vendor-supplied systems.
- Experience managing vendor relationships and delivery work statements (SOWs).
- Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative and consensus driven environment.
- Ability to influence others and move toward a common vision or goal.
- Ability to draw upon negotiation skills and conflict resolution strategies to work with multiple stakeholders, internal teams, and vendors to obtain buy-in and support to ensure the success of projects. Can perform complex analysis and implement remedies that meet the needs of challenging situations.
- Exceptional presentation, facilitation, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to convert complex technical information to plain language.
- Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of assigned projects to ensure successful and timely completion of desired outcomes, including initiation / inception, procurement (RFI, RFQ, RFP), delivery, and implementation phases.
- Lead the design and development of project plans and deliverables, such as:
- Project Charters, scoping documents, delivery plans, risk and issue logs, budgets, and reports
- Roadmaps and schedules
- Organizational change management and communication plans
- Training plans and materials
- Transition to operations plans
- Lead cross-functional delivery teams comprised of analysts, developers, coordinators, and managers, as well as business representatives and other technical resources (corporate IT and vendors) to support and enable delivery.
- Ensure that all steps from requirement analysis through to product selection, implementation, testing, and production are carried out in an optimal way to ensure successful and timely completion of projects.
- Facilitate a variety of meetings (stand-ups, working groups, stakeholder meetings, steering committees, workshops, and training sessions, etc.), by preparing content and ensuring actions, decisions, risks and issues are appropriately documented.
- Support program management activities, such as:
- Ensuring projects are aligned with overarching business goals and objectives
- Following program standards and governance structures
- Dependency mapping and coordination of interdependent projects that are part of the program
- Identifying program level risks and supporting mitigation or corrective actions
- Ensuring collaboration amongst project streams
- Supporting program change management and communications activities
- Measuring and monitoring success metrics and return on investment
