JOB OVERVIEW
As the Pet segment continues to grow, we are looking for a Sr. R&D Engineer to join our Pet R&D Process team to help enable us to deliver on the short- and long-term plans in this critical category for General Mills. In this Sr. R&D Engineer role, you will develop expertise across Pet processing technologies to commercialize products, enable efficiencies at select manufacturing locations, and unlock Digital-enabled capabilities to accelerate growth.
In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to leverage your strong technical, possibilities-thinking, and influence skills to advance projects from concept through commercialization. This role will help ensure products are manufactured as designed and unlock efficiencies through Digital tools / capabilities. You will be responsible for partnering across Pet Innonvation R&D, Engineering, Supply Chain, and other cross-functional partners to deliver impact.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provide R&D Process leadership in early feasibility through commercialization of innovation, renovation, and/or cost savings initiatives
- Lead experiments and trials at pilot plant & manufacturing scale
- Leverage digital tools (e.g., modeling, Process Analytical Technology, programming languages) to accelerate experimentation and advance capabilities
- Drive technical rigor through applicable project planning, tools, & documentation
- Manage multiple priorities and prioritize based on evolving business needs
- Collaborate across ITQ, Supply Chain, Engineering, and internal/external experts to advance ideas through feasibility and implementation
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Food Science, Food Engineering or other related field and 5+ years of product development and commercialization experience
- Ph.D in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Food Science, Food Engineering or other related fields and 3+ years of product development and commercialization experience
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the agility and adaptability to manage multiple situations with a strong learning mindset
- Desire to be a possibilities thinker that will be able to translate ideas into action
- Builds effective relationships and partnerships with internal and external partners. Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability and willingness to travel up to about 25% of the time
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Process development and/or commercialization experience in a pet food space or industry
- Experience with Digital tools (e.g., modeling, Process Analytical Technology)
- Experience with modeling software, and/or programming language (e.g. Python, R, etc.)
- Experience with one of more of the following technologies: meat processing, dryer/oven, extrusion, thermal processing
