DESCRIPTION:

The IT Customer Solutions team is responsible for the application maintenance and deployment of new capabilities for all applications that directly serve FortisAlberta’s customers. Under the general direction of the Manager IT Customer Solutions, the Sr Systems Specialist – Billing & CIS is primarily responsible for the SAP IS-U module in delivering technical systems support for the billing, metering, load settlement and data exchange processes. As well, this role provides technical support for metering applications and integration between these systems. This role will identify and resolve performance issues to support and enhance the applications. This individual will apply proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills in delivering systems support and enhancements that align with the business objective of serving our customers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the SAP IS-U end to end meter to cash process and integrations within these processes (device management, billing, and invoicing).
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of SAP ISU data model
  • Solid understanding and experience with data exchange processing in IDE and SAP Workflow. Knowledge of SAP MPM (Market process management for Utilities) will be considered an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with integration between SAP ISU and other applications using SAP PO and web services framework (SOAP and REST is required.
  • Excellent SAP IS-U skillset (functional and technical) including ABAP development skills in HANA, proficiency in ABAP 7.5, ALV grids, smart forms, user exits, enhancement points, and the SAP data dictionary.
  • Working knowledge of HANA studio, HANA calculation views and table functions as well as understanding of SLT processes will be considered an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to clearly present information to various audiences in both formal and informal settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a liaison between business users and other technical members in the team.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve issues by analyzing and evaluating possible solutions.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to manage multiple priorities and competing demands with tight timelines.
  • Effective change management skills and the ability to be flexible and adjust focus when priorities change, or other more urgent items require immediate attention. Ability to find productive solutions in scenarios that are unfamiliar and require a willingness to change.
  • Keen desire to learn and ability to acquire knowledge quickly. Self-motivated to seek out new understanding and skills using a variety of sources as well as ability to learn from both successes and failures.

  • Exposure to smart metering processes and AMI processes will be considered an asset.
  • Exposure to Robotics Process Automation tools for SAP will be considered an asset.
  • Exposure to an automated testing tool will be considered an asset.
  • Experience with and understanding of SAP UI5, JavaScript, CSS, JSON and HTML5 would be considered an asset.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree or Diploma in Computer Science or related discipline plus a minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience doing Systems Analysis and Design (An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience required completing development or functional configuration in the SAP IS-U module. Working experiences in SAP IS-U Billing and Invoicing, Device Management, Intercompany Data Exchange and/or Energy Data Management modules will be considered.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably within the Alberta electrical utility industry, would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical systems support within SAP Industry Solution for Utilities (IS-U) module (primarily SAP ISU Billing, Device Management, Inter Company Data Exchange or Energy Data Management) for all business processes that rely on the SAP IS-U module. This includes troubleshooting and resolving defects as well as designing, building, and deploying system enhancements.
  • Develop/enhance application interfaces between SAP IS-U and other integrated systems.
  • Analyze day-to-day functions and processes of software and database resources to ensure they are performing within predetermined guidelines, limits, and specifications; provide status reports and analysis documents as needed.
  • Complete all technical systems support in accordance with standard SAP practices, FortisAlberta development guidelines, peer review process and production release processes.
  • Prepare and deliver reports, (HANA based and traditional) recommendations, or alternatives that address existing and potential trouble areas in operating systems across the organization.
  • Create functional and technical specifications for all development and configuration work.
  • Provide excellent customer service to other business teams and make decisions with the customer in mind. Uphold customer service excellence values through exceptional delivery, proactive communication, and effective planning of technical changes.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with team members as well as internal and external stakeholders. Build strong partnerships with all levels of employees through intuitive business insight and personal credibility; this includes the ability to make recommendations and influence outcomes.
  • Participate in capital projects as well as day to day operations and support technical changes throughout the solution development lifecycle.
  • Respond to and resolve problems in a timely manner to guarantee compliance with industry deadlines.
  • Provide accurate assessments of system changes including effort, complexity of development and configurations, breakdown of work in logical work units with clear timelines.
  • Conduct research on emerging technologies, applications, services, and standards in support of SAP development efforts.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior team members.
  • Assist in evaluation of available programmer and systems analyst resources.
  • Report and manage incidents, problems and changes that affect service.
  • Special projects and other duties, as assigned.
