We have an exciting opportunity in the Department of Haematology at Core Training level ST1-2. Posts are available from 7 August 2024 for a period of one year.
The post holder will have the same education and training opportunities provided to trainees, with the same study leave benefits.
Post holders will form part of an existing, supportive multi-disciplinary team in our world renowned haematology services.
It is essential that candidates have core competencies of Foundation Year Two, relevant experience in internal medicine and haemato/oncology, and GMC registration with a licence to practice. Good team working skills and an excellent command of English are also essential.

It has world class support services including critical care, imaging, nuclear medicine and pathology.

The workforce is made up of approximately 50 consultants, 26 SpRs/StRs, 12 Clinical Research Fellows, 10 CT1/2 level doctors and 6 Advanced Nurse Practitioners. Leave is comprised of 27 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays and 30 days for study leave.
The Department of Haematology at UCLH consists of 3 large interrelated sections: clinical, routine service laboratory and academic research. The haematology inpatient department is located in the University College Hospital building on Grafton Way and the outpatient and daycare facilities are based in the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre, Huntley Street. The Haematology Laboratory is located in state-of-the-art facilities in Whitfield Street. The Academic Department, part of UCL, with Prof David Linch as its head, is located nearby in the Cancer Institute in Huntley Street and has an excellent record of high quality laboratory and clinical research in progress.
The University College Hospital (UCH) Macmillan Cancer Centre delivers the outpatient and day care for the haematology patients. It is a purpose-built facility with a ground breaking example of patient-focused, efficient, innovative care. It has a floor dedicated to the care of teenagers and young adults.
The red cell unit at UCLH is a pre-eminent national unit for investigating transfusion dependent and transfusion independent anaemias. Patients are referred locally nationally and internationally for investigation, treatment and advice about management. We have developed a network of associated clinical expertise (such as cardiology, endocrinology), as well as diagnostic testing that is uniquely available at UCLH. The unit is able to use the expertise within the Special Haematology Department, Routine Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Haemoglobinopathy genetics laboratories. UCLH is the only unit that offers DNA diagnosis of haemoglobinopathies, together with other laboratory based investigations such as globin chain synthesis, alongside clinical care for thalassaemia disorders. The red cell disorders unit has the largest number of patients with thalassaemia in the UK and a large population of patients with sickle cell disease and has the fastest growing apheresis service in the UK
