Description:
Ballard’s Stack Test Engineering team has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Test Engineer/ Applied Scientist in our Burnaby, BC headquarters. As a Stack Test Engineer, you will be looking to find the limits of new fuel cell technology in a world-class test lab, surrounded by industry experts. The Ideal Candidate:
You have a solid understanding and experience in design verification testing, data analysis, mechanical design and statistical methods. Additionally, you have solid programming skills. You enjoy a mixture of hands-on work and have strong structured problems solving and troubleshooting skills. You have strong writing and presentation skills. Further, you have demonstrated that you can take a project from start to finish. Bonus points for understanding of electronics, DFMEA experience, and Excel VBA or Python skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop test protocols and test plans linked to DFMEAs and plan full test campaigns
- Collaborate with component owners to develop and refine test methods
- Create databases for test data and key results
- Identify, source and qualify alternative measurement techniques
- Support safety audits of new test setups
- Analyze data, assess conformity of a design to requirements and prepare appropriate reports and/or presentations to support your findings
- Present to internal and external customers
- Work with internal lab equipment support teams to maximize data quality and equipment uptime
- Work collaboratively with team members and at times direct the work of others
Qualifications:
- B.Sc. degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Materials, Fuel Cell or related Engineering program with 3 – 6 years of related experience
- Ability to interpret test data and compare against design objectives
- Familiarity with engineering tools such as design verification planning, tolerance stack-up, structured problem solving, DFMEA, and DVP&R
- Project management skills
- Strong technical writing skills
- Programming experience in Python
Assets:
- Understanding of fuel cell design and characterization methods
- Strong communication skills
- Professional Engineering eligibility or certification
The typical hiring range for this position is CAD$75,000 - CAD$93,000 per annum. In determining total compensation, Ballard considers many factors, including the successful Candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, experience, position location, and internal equity.
