Description:

Set in the Salinas, California area, the company offering this short-term contract / temporary opportunity encourages innovation and rewards effort in the work place. The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing monthly and year-end closings, journal entries, fixed asset maintenance, bank reconciliation, and general ledger reconciliation. A very involved position, this role produces Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. Many aspects of internal reporting will be your responsibility during the monthly close. You’ll also review schedules for the reporting processes, stay in touch with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and play an active role in compliance.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the creation of monthly balance sheet and income statement analyses for reporting to management
- Partake in annual closing processes
- Carry out fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation
- Commentate on a wide variety of financial data and communicate it in a useful and understandable manner
- Ready complex journal entries and account reconciliations including but not limited to cash, prepaid expenses and payroll
- Carry out month end close, journal entries, without supervision
- Ad-hoc reporting and special projects, as requested
- Help with the implementation, maintenance and adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP
- Participate in various initiatives spanning multiple departments
- Support capital lease and monthly payment schedules
- Ability to work well in matrix organization and dealing with ambiguity
- Self-starter and strong ethical standards
- ERP system experience
- 3+ years of recent and relevant accounting experience
- Competent with spreadsheets and databases
- Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills required
- Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines
- Proven knowledge of account reconciliation
- Deep understanding of Accounts Payable (AP)
- Solid understanding of General Accounting
- Knowledge of general ledger
- GAAP Accounting experience
- Accounts Receivable (AR) experience preferred
- Detailed and have the ability work independently
- BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics
- Outstanding analytical, quantitative and social skills
- Ability to work within spreadsheets and databases
