JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

This role is within the Composites Mechanical Analysis team in GE Aerospace Defense & Systems Engineering Division.
The team is responsible for mechanical analysis and durability assessments of gas turbine engine components manufactured from ceramics matrix composites (CMC), and high temperature polymer matrix composites (PMC).
As Staff Engineer, you will be expected to apply state-of-the-art finite element analysis (FEA) methods to design and life aerospace hardware in a highly collaborative environment for military engineering applications. The job requires properly scoping analysis tasks, executing mechanical analysis, and presenting results to others. Position will also require mentoring of early-career mechanical analysts. Your responsibilities will involve working with cross-functional teams, including mechanical design and thermal systems design teams, to support new component design releases. You will be expected to capture and document lessons learned in standard analysis practices.
Position requires US citizenship and ability to obtain US Government security clearance.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from accredited university or college
  • Minimum 5 years of job experience in finite element analysis methods and software in a fulltime engineering position
  • Position is for a US Citizen due to the nature of the military applications

Responsibilities:

  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work would include mechanical and/or electrical engineering for all products
  • Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and policy development, and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
  • Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations. Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus. Developing persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.
