WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelors with 10+ years of relevant industry experience, or Masters with 8+ years or PhD with 5+ years in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred.
  • High level of expertise in signal and image processing.
  • Expertise in different compression methods: DCT, Wavelet, VDC-M, JPEG, MPEG, VVC, HEVC, etc.
  • Proficient in C/C++ programming and MATLAB.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A “can-do” attitude and ability to work in a cross-functional team.
  • Familiarity with display technology.
  • Familiarity with firmware/hardware implementation.
  • Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence methods (Machine Learning, Deep Learning, CNN).

High resolution and big screen displays have become essential parts of our daily lives. Future world is perceived to be full of displays on walls, mirrors, appliances presenting all kinds of information. In order to reach that point, however, many challenges need to be overcome. The Samsung Display America R&D Lab, located in San Jose, California, is currently recruiting world-class engineers who share our “Innovation through Passion” philosophy and thrive in a fast-pace, results-driven environment. You will be part of the systems and algorithms team where you will work on state-of-the-art research projects related closely to the Samsung display products alongside experts of the field. You will also collaborate with Samsung Display Korea and other Samsung R&D centers in Silicon Valley and around the world.
Location: Hybrid, working onsite at our San Jose, CA headquarters 3 days a week, with the flexibility to work remotely the remainder of your time.

In systems and algorithm group, many challenges of the display industry are considered and proper algorithms are developed to address them. These algorithms cover areas such as display interfaces, UI/UX, AR/VR, visual quality, image/video compression, and real time picture enhancement. We are active in the global standardization of display technologies and contribute to many standard bodies such as VESA, MIPI, etc. The candidate will have to work closely with the hardware and software teams to implement the developed algorithms into the real products. Artificial intelligence methods have been successfully used in solving many display problems and this opening can benefit from certain machine learning expertise. There is, therefore, a need to people with strong theoretic background. Specific duties include:

  • Develop algorithms for image/video compression.
  • Work with the RTL team through the implementation and verification.
  • Generate technical patents and support standard activities.
  • Collaborate with other Samsung teams on joint research initiatives, projects, and prototypes.
