Description:

Under the direction of the HR Processing Supervisor, the HR Processing Lead has the primary responsibility to organize, analyze, validate, and enter all human resources and payroll data transactions into the unified payroll database. The HR Processing Lead: critically evaluates the information gathered from multiple sources, reconciles conflicts and research inconsistencies in information; proactively identifies and resolves HR processing issues; independently advises employees on standard HR practices and procedures; and resolves problems when clear procedures exist. The HR Processing Lead is responsible for processing complex payroll transactions, including the reconciliation and calculation of retroactive payroll adjustments.
The incumbent regularly interacts with HR generalists and managers throughout the HR organization as well as client departments and other business units to address and resolve problems and ensures accurate and timely data entry to meet various systems deadlines. This position will support HR partners with advanced processes and procedures to support client departments’ business needs.
The HR Processing Lead will be held accountable to high customer service standards, service level agreements and related metrics. They will perform all duties with tact, discretion and according to confidentiality requirements.

UCSF HR Shared Services consists of multiple operational and transactional teams assisting staff, academic, and trainee populations across the organization. These teams partner closely with UCSF Campus Departments and the Health System, HR Talent Management and People Wellness, and the Office of Faculty and Academic Affairs to assist and deliver a comprehensive array of HR services designed to attract, develop, and retain diverse workforce talent.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 3+ years related payroll and/or HR processing experience or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training
  • 2+ years data entry experience
  • Thorough knowledge of all payroll processes, policies, and procedures; knowledge of organization-specific computer application programs.
  • Thorough knowledge of organizational processes, procedures, and possesses a strong understanding of organizational rules and regulations.
  • Strong judgment and decision-making skills; verbal, written and active listening communication skills. Uses strong interpersonal and service orientation skills in interactions with customers and colleagues. Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Problem solving, problem identification, reasoning skills and ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of the various computer systems that make-up the processing of personnel actions, including Payroll system, Timekeeping system, Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Skill in analyzing information, defining problem or objective, formulating logical and objective conclusions.
  • Thorough knowledge of/ability to learn, and ability to adhere to, internal control principles and systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of basic business practices and ability to learn and understand financial systems (general ledger, payroll, etc.)
  • Demonstrated skill to communicate with effectiveness in a tactful, helpful, and informative manner, both in person and by the telephone with diverse groups of people at all levels
  • Ability to set priorities and to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various levels of personnel in a large organization.
  • Exercise independent judgment and make sound decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with frequent interruptions.
  • Working knowledge of academic and faculty compensation and payroll policies
  • Ability to work with sensitive information

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Healthcare or hospital experience and knowledge of collective bargaining systems
