Location/Division Specific Information
We are a research, development, and production site in Bremen currently, with about 500 employees, whose “high-end” measurement and analysis instruments (mass spectrometers) are used in research and science worldwide. Our innovative products in the fields of Life Sciences MS and Inorganic MS, as well as Trace Elemental Analysis, are among the leading products globally in their respective markets. We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Scientist to join our dynamic Research & Development team in Bremen. As a Staff Software Engineer for new product developments, you will play a crucial role in driving innovation and leading the software development of new products within an existing platform.
A Day in the Life:
Join our dynamic team and embark on an exciting journey filled with diverse tasks and responsibilities. As a key member of our R&D team, you will have the opportunity to lead product development projects and collaborate with our global network of sites.
Your primary focus will be on leading a software technical activity for mass spectrometers projects, guiding technical team in prioritizing work items, and analyzing data to solve complex technical problems. Working closely with our science and product management team, you will play a vital role in deriving detailed software technical specifications and overseeing all stages of software development, from initial research to customer release.
In this role, you will be making critical technical decisions on a daily basis, while also creating an environment that fosters effective decision-making among your colleagues. You will be responsible for planning, executing, and documenting software R&D activities, as well as developing software considering software and quality standards. Additionally, you will provide guidance and support to software colleagues and cross functional teams during development.
As an integral part of the project cycle, you will ensure seamless knowledge transfer to other software colleagues, science team, and product management team, enabling them to effectively support the newly developed instruments.

- Act as software technical leader for mass spectrometers projects (Lead all technical activities – requirements, hands-on, planning, technical guidance and testing etc.)
- Actively prototype, implement and test new software features (Considering software quality and zero defect)
- Work closely with your software colleagues to address software defects/issues in a timely manner; (Hands-on software development required)
- Create and maintain documents as part of the product development process
- Apply intellectual property (IP) principles, rules, and strategies when writing invention disclosures, patents, publications, and presentations
- Effectively communicate software development progress verbally and in writing to management and colleagues
- Be the pairing partner for architects and cross functional leaders
- Represent the company in interactions with external customers and collaborators
- This position responsibilities split (70-80% hands-on and remaining technical leadership / administrative activities)
Experience & Education
- Several years of industrial track record in software development of complex analytic instrumentation after successful completion of a Doctoral degree in technical discipline or Master’s degree with 6-7 years of experience
- Experience working on embedded software development for complex software architectures
- First experience in a software technical leadership role is highly appreciated

- Excellent knowledge of Python and C++ and strong background in embedded software development
